Embracing Imposter Syndrome: The Unspoken Truths Business Gurus Avoid(In a place with slow broadband or just prefer to hear this unbleeped? I was a young business strategist trying to break into an industry packed with so-called "gurus" and experts. The term felt like a diagnosis of a condition I’d been suffering from silently my entire career. In this episode, we're going to dig into what these gurus won’t tell you about imposter syndrome, especially when you have ADHD. Hi, I’m Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset coach, and in this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on this pervasive issue and giving you real strategies to overcome it.Every entrepreneur hits new milestones. You might go from zero to $5,000 a month, and suddenly, that goalpost moves to $10,000. But guess what? The moment you hit $10,000 a month, you're gleeful for about five minutes before you experience what I call a “10k meltdown.” Your success becomes the new normal, and the pressure to maintain it mounts. And with ADHD in the mix, the self-doubt and constant need to measure up can be debilitating. We're conditioned to seek external validation in an environment that offers no grades or lunchroom invitations. So how do you break free from a cycle designed to make you feel like an imposter? That's what we're exploring in this episode.Once you’ve listened, you’ll learn critical strategies like embracing your authentic self and facing fears head-on. Instead of waiting for the world to tell you how good you are, you’ll understand why it’s crucial to cultivate internal self-worth. Empowering yourself isn’t just about getting rid of imposter syndrome; it’s about stepping into your power, making bold moves, and letting your unique qualities shine. By the end of this episode, you won't merely be informed; you'll be equipped to transform your mindset and scale your business without letting self-doubt hold you back.Timestamped summary00:00 Success triggers imposter syndrome, especially with ADHD.04:58 Imposter syndrome stems from broken confidence training.07:36 External validation doesn't determine self-worth.11:47 Don't let fear control your business visibility.16:19 Be authentic to help clients and yourself.19:06 Embrace uniqueness, overcome imposter syndrome confidently.Your next steps after listening Want to come and experience a free monthly group session with me one Friday soon?https://weeniecast.com/brave-biz-labsRealizing it's time to work with me? Quick bit of 'housekeeping' - this episode includes a free worksheet - https://weeniecast.com/rule-worksheet-click-hereNow that's sorted...I'm gonna tell you something surprising about ADHD business owners—it's not what you think. Hi, I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset coach, and welcome to The Weeniecast. This topic might hit home for you: the rule of thirds, and why being bad at stuff is something we, ADHD business owners, are notoriously terrible at. And it's a much bigger deal than you might realize. So stick around, because I'm going to break this down and give you practical advice on how to tackle this head-on, transforming your business along the way.Let me give you a little teaser of what's in store. First off, we'll explore why ADHD folks tend to give up at the first sign of failure. Trust me, it comes from a deeper place than just a lack of patience. We'll also talk about how our brains are wired to only hyperfocus on things we're naturally interested in, which makes us super talented right off the bat in those areas. But here's the kicker - when it comes to running a business, there's a mountain of skills you need that you probably don't have that natural inclination for and that can throw you for a loop. From copywriting to sales to accounting, these aren't exactly your dopamine-packed playgrounds, right? But don't worry, there's hope. TakeawaysWhat ADHD business owners often struggle with that leads to frustration. What is the 'rule of thirds'? Why you need to consider hiring help. Impact on neurodivergent individuals. How to build resilience for personal and business growth with ADHD. How to avoid the pitfalls many business owners face. What do we business owners share in common with beavers? You're gonna kick yourself!Hey, I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset coach, and this is my podcast "The Weeniecast!" Pssssst! Not sure if you've heard, but I'm inviting new members to the best community for business owners with ADHD - the Hyperfocused Community! You can join here - https://weeniecast.com/hyperfocusNow, back to this episode...How do you beaver up your business?I was scrolling through my social media feed the other day when I stumbled upon the most peculiar video: a beaver diligently collecting household items to create a dam inside someone's bathtub. It struck me how instinctual it is for these creatures to obstruct the natural flow of water—and then I realized, isn't that what we often do in our own businesses? I’ve now coined the term: "beavering your business as a result of this lesson I've learned." Often, ADHD entrepreneurs unconsciously create energy blocks that prevent success, clients, and money from flowing naturally. How do we create dams in our own success? It's all about the stories we tell ourselves—stories about our ADHD, our relationship with money, or our skill sets. Instead of treating these as minor hurdles to overcome, we magnify them into insurmountable obstacles. For instance, constantly blaming ADHD for our challenges not only limits our actions but also keeps us in a perpetual state of powerlessness. We even use our "bad relationship with money" as a convenient excuse to avoid asking for the compensation we deserve. By acknowledging and tackling these stories head-on, you’ll learn how to redirect that blocking energy into something more constructive. After listening to this episode, you'll gain valuable insights into recognizing and dismantling the barriers you've been unknowingly placing in your own path. We’ll cover practical strategies for transforming your mindset around ADHD and money, empowering you to step into a position of control and opportunity. You'll be better at identifying the sabotaging narratives you tell yourself, and more equipped to make decisions from a place of strength rather than weakness. Whether it's overcoming your fear of failure, rejection, or just breaking a long-held belief that you “can't” succeed because of your ADHD, this episode will arm you with the tools to stop being a weenie and start running a successful, profitable business.Timestamped Summary:00:00 - Introduction: How beavers and business blocks are connected.01:50 - The concept of "beavering your business" and the negative impact of energetic blocks.02:49 - Common self-imposed barriers ADHD entrepreneurs create, stemming from blaming ADHD.03:49 - The power of shifting away from blaming ADHD to taking control.04:54 - Specifics on how untreated ADHD symptoms can impact business tasks.06:06 - Discussing the myth of insurmountable obstacles, especially around money.07:09 - Steps to improve relationship with money and move past paralyzing beliefs.08:54 - Overcoming my "I'm bad at writing dialogue" block.10:10 - Breaking down the psychological mechanisms behind magnifying obstacles.12:34 - Empowering yourself to overcome the beavers in your business. This episode is your guide to stop letting beavers dam up your path to success.
