Put your feet up, grab a glass of wine and listen to great travel stories and suggestions, and you have the ethos of Beach Travel Wine podcast, brought to you by Leanne and Lyle McCabe.
https://www.beachtravelwine.com/
It's a fun, casual and lighthearted podcast aimed at beach-loving, wine-drinking couples over 50, although as we chat about today, their travel advice is perfectly relevant to anyone. They spent much of the past year in Spain, and it holds a special place in both their hearts and their series of episodes. Learn about all kinds of fascinating corners of the country, from Marbella to Asturias, Valencia to Oviedo. And of course Barcelona and Madrid.
The podcast was inspired in part by a dearth of information in audio form about different parts of Spain, beyond the regular tourist routes, as well as an opening to speak to their demographic. It's a common theme on this show, where we've met travel podcasters filling voids and creating the shows that they want to listen to.
But Beach Travel Wine is not exclusively Spanish-focused, indeed their initial episodes start off in Paris and London. The new year should see them spending quality time in Mexico, working on their Spanish, as well as exploring more sights around Australia and New Zealand. And who knows what else! The spontaneity is part of the adventure.
In our conversation today we share some excellent advice on taking action, just getting started and not letting technical hurdles get in the way. We talk about the importance of regular promotion, and to not hesitate to regularly post reminders of your show, because the algorithms mean not everyone will see it right away anyway.
And we dive into some real travel, with Ted's upcoming family adventure to Spain and Portugal front and centre. So it's not just podcasting advice today but good travel tips too!
Action Advice
5:15 - Choosing a good name for their show.
8:02 - Another example of filling a void and creating the show you want to listen to.
9:05 - Not making any big plans for the podcast, basically just sitting down and starting!
9:53 - On making it as easy as possible, and not getting overwhelmed by thoughts of expensive equipment or complicated setup.
12:39 - How researching for the podcast has in turn enhanced the experience of travel itself. Having a platform to share what you've learned.
10:12 - Where are travellers hanging out and most likely to come across your show.
19:42 - The routine for putting show notes and photos together, and then repurposing material for other platforms. Giving your audience more options.
21:02 - We chat about promotion and how often you should post clips and reminders of your episodes, and your show in general. How much is too much?
25:52 - The value of having your own dedicated podcast website and URL. You can control more factors like SEO keywords and search terms.

It's vicarious travel at its best with Art & Julie Dobrucki, hosts of "The Places Where We Go" podcast which, as per the title, brings you along on their journeys through Europe and the United States.
https://www.theplaceswherewego.com/
Their story has been an evolution from only fairly recently beginning to travel in earnest to exploring the options of documenting their experiences: first creating little daily video journals for their own records, then blogging, followed by podcasting and YouTube videos now too. It's another great example of video complementing audio, and vice-versa.
The foundation of the show is great research and detail, in essence repurposing the work and preparation that went into planning the trip in the first place by then describing how it unfolded, and having lots of practical info at their fingertips.
In this, it is a podcast made for DIY travel: independent travellers who enjoy the planning and research process, piecing together a unique and individual trip and keeping space for spontaneity and adaptation. And they are happily inspired by other travellers to help them build their trips, to then pass that info and experience on to their own listeners.
Highlights include exploring destinations in Wales, England and Ireland, particularly off-the-beaten-path villages and parks that have a particular draw. We also visit Rome, Florence, Venice and Ferrara as part of their Italian trip, and more recently a mini-series on multiple cities in western Poland, where they trace some family lineage.
When not in Europe, Julie & Art are exploring the national parks of the United States, switching to RV travel in their Airstream trailer. This includes Montana, Northern California, the stunning parks of Utah and more. They take us to Alaska, hopping off their cruise to make it all the way up to Denali National Park.
As for motivation, in our conversation today we chat about how surviving a major health scare put life and travel in perspective, and led to them embracing opportunities and adventures. It's a valuable reminder for all of us to live life to the fullest.
Action Advice
9:45 - On filling a void in podcasting by creating one themselves.
11:50 - On getting used to the audio format, and learning to not over-prepare.
13:38 - Using podcast narration to add to video clips for YouTube.
19:19 - Don't worry about talking about an older trip on your podcast. Just get the information up to date, the stories are still relevant!
21:50 - On enjoying the moment and summarizing your travels when you get home.
24:25 - Art & Julie's remarkable consistency, and the decision that allowed them to achieve that.
28:28 - Learning the remote recording process and format, and how to get it all set up.
35:10 - How do they know how many episodes to do for each destination?

Dive into India and relive the memorable experiences of real travellers through the India Chalo podcast. Host Rohan Bansal connects with guests from his home base of Delhi, engaging in inspiring conversations on exotic destinations. You've likely heard of Goa, Sikkim or Jaipur, but Rohan and his guests will also introduce you to new discoveries, in distant corners: Chitkul in Himachal Pradesh, deep in the heart of the Himalaya, or Vizag in tropical Andhra Pradesh.
https://www.indiachalo.in/
There's lots of great info for planning a trip around India: detailed itineraries, attractions and activities. Each episode arrives however with an emphasis on experiences, of what it's like to be trekking through the mountains or navigating through a busy local market.
The India podcasting scene itself is a topic of discussion too, as Rohan points out there have not been a lot of Indian creators publishing consistently, yet. This encompasses all niches and topics, but travel is no exception. India Chalo and The Musafir Stories (Travel Podcast the World Ep. 20) are part of a growing wave of made-in-India travel podcasts, promoting travel in India to both a foreign and domestic audience. When you consider that with well over a billion people, a middle class of roughly 25% of the population suggests a domestic market alone of roughly 350 million people. Many are only starting to really explore their own country.
This gives India Chalo an interesting perspective as a podcast: it speaks to a domestic audience, but is equally applicable to the foreign traveller. Indeed, Rohan is always searching for non-Indian travellers to share their stories of journeying around the country, so if you fit that description, do consider getting in touch. But if you want to feel like a savvy traveller to India, and can imagine yourself navigating the train stations and chowks with ease, you'll be right at home listening to India Chalo.
Action Advice
11:57 - Could podcasting be the next big thing in travel content, after blogging?
17:59 - On the pressure to publish every week, and often compromising on quality as a result.
21:03 - Have your guests share their own photos via your Instagram, and record their own clips talking about being on the show. Great for engagement and promotion.
30:04 - Giving yourself permission to tell your own stories and allow the audience to get to know you. It's easy to forget that they don't know what you know, or what you've done/where you've been.

When we travel, and come home from a great trip, what are the moments that stand out?
Journey with Jake is a travel podcast that explores the "why" behind travel - why people want to travel, and what it means to them.
To do this, Jake interviews fellow travellers, everyday inspiring people who have often done some amazing things, like motorcycling across Asia or participating in a 2700 mile bike race, or who may also just have a great travel story to tell, from their recent cruise or their family cottage in upstate New York.
It's all about places they've been, and experiences they've had that have meaning to them.
And it's not always the "big" things, it could be the little things too, moments in time that stick out in our minds. Memories triggered by certain scents or sounds. Human connections that can put everything into context, creating a fond reminder and bringing a smile to your face.
Jake and I talk about the craft of letting good conversation unfold, when to interrupt, and when to just listen. We recognize how fortunate we are in not being limited by strict time-frames, such as with radio, but having the option to run a bit longer and uncover a bit more from our guests.
Since he launched the show, nearly a year ago, Jake has quickly progressed from biweekly to weekly episodes, and seen his focus evolve from talking about destinations to talking about experiences, and not just places.
Thus the hikers, hunters, whitewater rafters, mountain bikers and even van lifers, all of whom have been interesting people with meaningful experiences to share.
The podcast is a great complement to your travels, and an opportunity to share your own stories. Reach out to Jake if you want to be a guest and contribute!
Action Advice
5:54 - How much time per week it takes Jake to prepare an episode.
8:44 - On setting out with objectives, and creating an initial list of 25 possible episode ideas to help you get organized.
9:40 - Letting guests tell their story, without having to stick to a strict timeframe.
12:01 - Leading people through their first podcast guest experience, and settling into the role of "host."
16:20 - Lean on referrals, especially from former guests, to make other connections.
20:55 - The importance of being a guest yourself, and relating to that experience when you're then hosting your own show.
22:14 - Putting yourself out there, telling your own story and allowing your audience to connect with you. Even if it feels a little vulnerable.

Portia Jones is a freelance travel writer and host of the Travel Goals Podcast, which combines interviews with travel experts & insiders with on-location destination profiles, all done with fantastic audio quality.
Travel Goals Podcast
If you have ever wanted to learn what it takes to plan and record audio while travelling, this episode will get you started.
And although yes, Portia and her producer/husband Luke do have some pretty slick equipment to get the job done, that does't mean that's the only way to do it.
In our conversation today, we have a great discussion on the strengths of audio, and how to make yours shine, with just a bit of planning and preparation.
When Portia interviews people in destinations like Peru and Saint Lucia, she has largely set up those contacts in advance. When they record street sounds and background audio, they make sure to get lots of versions so that there's as good a chance as possible of capturing something that works.
And where's the best place to edit and prepare your on-location episode? Likely back in your home studio or office, but Portia recommends, whatever you do, to get in the moment and immerse yourself in the creation, to really get in the zone.
Travel Goals strives to set the standard for what audio, and travel audio in particular, can be. The opportunities abound, indeed how many people have told her, "I never would have thought of talking about our destination through the medium of audio!"
Action Advice
6:55 - Adapting your content plans to circumstances, and running with it.
8:10 - Telling stories in audio, dropping listeners into an environment and capturing those sounds.
8:52 - Equipment suggestions for recording in the field.
9:47 - How long it takes to put a destination episode together, complete with a library of clips and options. How to get in the zone and focus.
11:55 - The mindset towards capturing high-quality audio, yet knowing it may not be perfect.
14:30 - How do locals feel about being on a podcast.
15:26 - Being approchable, yet clear about what you need and what people you interview can expect. Reminding them where they can find the episode once it's published.
16:50 - Dropping listeners right into a destination so they can get a sense of what it's really like.
17:32 - Always consider the listener's experience, especially when doing a detailed, complex episode. Put the time in to make it as good as you can.
22:25 - On being realistic about your time, and consider having fewer episodes that have higher quality.
24:38 - Listening to other podcasts helps you pick out things you can add to your own.
24:55 - Gimlet's 90 second rule: switch something up every 90 seconds, to keep your listeners from drifting off.
28:35 - Marketing and promotion tips.

It's June of 2020, the world is in lockdown and travel seems out of the question. You've never started a podcast before, and your co-host is someone you barely know. What on Earth will you talk about, and how will it go?
Fast forward two + years later: 87 episodes recorded, a burgeoning friendship, lots of fun episodes about your own backyard, interviews with guests from around the world, and, at last, proper overseas adventures to share, and we can call the Travel Mug Podcast a success story.
Travel Mug Podcast
Hosts Jenn & Meggan join Ted today to chat about their show, which combines destination guides with seasonal-themed episodes, short travel-tip extras, fun conversation and great inspiration. And with a healthy dose of gourmet coffee to keep it humming. Travel Mug Podcast evolved from Jenn's travel blog, branching out into the audio format to get into more depth and detail. Having met each other through travel blogging, Meggan and Jenn decided to see if there would be chemistry as co-hosts and were pleasantly surprised, along with their audience, to find a natural fit.
Like many of the travel-themed podcasts we've profiled so far on this show, Travel Mug was born out of the pandemic, when podcasting offered one of the few connections to the world of travel and adventure. As travel now returns, these podcasts are well-placed to build on their foundations of dozens of episodes of experience, and keep developing dynamic content and deeper connections with their audience.
Action Advice
6:08 - Taking action, starting the podcast despite the odds and circumstances at the time.
9:45 - Is it worth revisiting places profiled during the pandemic, to reflect changes and newer information.
11:10 - Turning a travel blog into a podcast.
12:03 - The decision to host the podcast together.
16:28 - Promotion strategies, especially Instagram.
17:10 - Growing and planning the show, two years in, with an eye to future episodes.
20:04 - Choosing a name for a podcast.
24:50 - Reporting on a place as a first or second time visitor, not as someone with a long-term perspective. The context that gives the listener.
27:35 - The challenges of recording on the road, whether regular episodes or getting local sounds.
32:37 - Reflecting on sustainability in travel, and ethical travel.

It's been an eventful three weeks on my end, and a long time coming: hitting the road again for a proper road trip, in this case to Canada's Maritime provinces: New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
It was also a first ever proper family trip for my wife and I, a couple vacations to Cuban resorts notwithstanding, but we finally had the chance to be real travellers and bring our kids (4 & 6 years old) on a good adventure.
Canada's east coast is within a day's drive of where we live, in Québec, and an inviting destination with lots to learn and discover. We knew the September weather would be (mostly) beautiful, prices would be a bit better and crowds would be smaller. We didn't expect to be hit by a hurricane, but we rode that out too. You'll hear all about it in today's episode.
I was also in pursuit of a particular theme: exploring Acadia, and the history of French settlement in what are now English provinces but which started off, in the European age, as very much French. 150 years of French colonization though ended with the Acadian diaspora, le Grand dérangement, where Acadians throughout present-day NB, PEI and NS were kicked off their land by the British and sent to virtually all corners of the Earth. Some trickled back in the decades that followed, and rebuilt their society through fierce independence and pride, surrounded by a sea of English.
There are pockets of Acadia throughout the Maritimes, and our trip ended up touching on most of them. It's given me some great ideas and inspiration for a podcast mini-series on travel to Canada's east coast, a mix of history and modern travel planning, and something that I'll be putting together over the coming weeks. Today's episode is a preview of what's to come.
But of course, I also learned about travel podcasting while travelling, something we've certainly talked about a lot on this show, but which I have a much better appreciation for now. It takes a lot of planning and logistics, perseverance and commitment, and often that can get in the way of a family vacation or daily sightseeing.
Most travel podcasters take their notes and observations, then record and put it together when they get back home. That's what I'll be doing, and there is a lot less stress for sure. But we'll continue on this show to pursue understanding how to capture that live feel and ambience while you're out there, if at all possible, and to try to add some dynamic soundscapes to your travel podcast. There's lots of potential to let your creativity take flight.

London is a destination with endless sights and attractions, history and stories wherever you look, and hidden treasures connected to people around the globe.
Here to make sense of it all is the London Visited podcast, and host Steve Atkins-Linnell.
londonvisited.co.uk
Inspired by his own efforts to figure out the city and have it make sense for travellers, Steve started with a YouTube channel, documenting famous highlights and helping viewers create their own itineraries.
This then expanded into a podcast, to tell the stories behind places like the Tower of London, the Tube or Trafalgar Square. It is the podcast that delves into fascinating history, trivia and tidbits, giving us context to the things we’re seeing, or that we didn’t expect to see.
Listening to London Visited is like going on a virtual tour of the city, especially when Steve creates mini-series following along famous walks, traversing bridges or popping into museums.
If you’ve been to London, Visited will bring back fond memories and leave you appreciative of the sights you’ve seen. If you’re planning a trip, you have a tremendous guide pointing you the way to a satisfying, money-saving adventure.
Action Advice
4:00 - Reflecting on the power of feedback on podcasts in particular. How does Steve interact with his listeners?
6:55 - How podcasting adds the in-depth background & deep-dive to a YouTube channel.
11:40 - Getting across the info on how to save money and plan a smart, enjoyable trip to a place like London.
15:03 - Meeting listeners & viewers in person, and connecting with them via a monthly live stream on YouTube.
18:10 - On reading from a script, yet sounding as natural as possible.
19:11 - How to create your own custom-made database on the podcast website with your episodes, so listeners can easily search, find and cross-reference episodes.
21:30 - Planning and organizing episodes & information for an engrossing subject like London.
23:50 - How long it takes Steve to put an episode together.
30:00 - Steve talks about his voiceover work, which is an intriguing opportunity for podcasters.

Today we take our first dedicated trip to India (in travel podcast form) with Saif Omar of The Musafir Stories, likely the first and certainly the longest-running podcast about travel in India.
Saif and his wife Faiza are both native to India: Bangalore, specifically, but having lived abroad for years, were keen to learn more about their own country, and decided to do so through starting a podcast.
That was over 5 years ago, and 135 episodes later they are going stronger than ever. Their secret is to allow their guests to share their own experiences, and all the insight therein on things to see and do, which means that Saif and Faiza are themselves travelling vicariously along with their listeners.
The show takes you not just to the well-known destinations like Mumbai, Kolkata or Goa, but in particular parts of India you may not be quite as familiar with, such as Coonoor, a hill town in Tamil Nadu, or Bundi, a quaint town in Rajasthan.
Explore history, cuisine, temples and festivals, listen to authors and bloggers, photographers and mountain climbers, accompanied by beautiful images, all sharing their insight into the many dynamic corners of India on this trailblazing podcast.
Action Advice
9:35 - On learning about your own country through your guests.
16:18 - Strategies for staying consistent, and not burning out.
17:34- The ongoing debate about adding numbers to podcast episode titles, and how The Musafir Stories was told to stop.
23:06 - The experience of moving to an established podcast network, and the opportunities to scale the show, greater marketing and cross-promotion.
26:50 - The pros and cons of joining a network.
32:26 - On finding great cover art for individual episodes.
33:26 - How the place or location is typically the protagonist for a travel episode, while the guest's role is to interpret it.
34:24 - Using Google Maps or similar to pin the locations of your episodes, with direct links therein to that episode.

Yellow Van Travels follows the adventures of Meagan and Ben as they explore the United States and abroad with their two young daughters.
Yellow Van Travels podcast
Since 2018, listeners have shared in their discoveries of Boston and Nashville, Ireland and Italy, Greece and Paris, Washington, DC and New York City, cruising, Disneyland, Disneyworld and, most of all, plentiful National Parks.
Destination guide episodes give you an idea for what to expect and how to plan, especially with kids in tow, and their "tips" episodes interspersed in between offer more general advice and perspectives, whether it's on flying with a toddler, or prioritizing travel and personal budgeting.
Through it all, they give powerful inspiration to travel not just with your kids, but because of your kids.
It is an adjustment, especially when you're used to travelling solo or as a couple, but if you are parents, particularly of young kids, this episode will really encourage you to get out there and (keep) travelling.
Meagan was fortunate to travel through her childhood, while for Ben the spark was lit upon seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time, and realizing, "I can't miss seeing these things."
Many of us can relate to that moment where you recognize that travel is more than just an occasional activity, but indeed a deeper priority. Ben and Meagan built a podcast, blog and YouTube channel out of that moment, and they are here today to share their story with you.

It's been a busy month here on my end, selling our house and moving 400 km away, lining up travel plans for the fall and getting some more great travel-themed podcasts ready to profile.
This is a quick summer update episode for you, in advance of some new episodes coming your way in August, 2022.
I wanted to keep you abridged of my latest news and plans, and also let you know about my new travel podcast suggestion form!
If you're a podcaster who would like your travel-themed show profiled here, use the form "Submit Your Podcast" through the link below, or on the podcast website, https://www.travelpodcasttheworld.com.
If you're a podcast listener (or of course maybe a podcaster too!), and know of a travel-themed podcast that you'd like me to profile, use the "Suggest a Podcast" form (also in the show notes and website) to point me their way. It's possible they may be on my list already, but there's a lot of stuff out there, and it's always great to have a direct reference or suggestion.
You don't need the permission of the podcast, or have to know the hosts. I'll take a look and reach out if they're a good fit.

Jeremy Lux founded Illumine Collect in 2017 to raise money for nonprofits with an emphasis on community building and outdoor lifestyle.
To illuminate the stories behind the amazing people creating these organizations, the Life in Motion podcast was launched a year later.
Life in Motion Podcast
The two concepts really go hand in hand: the podcast to promote the concept and the many diverse causes out there, and Illumine to help raise funding for them, through the creation of custom-made apparel, such as tshirts and hoodies.
Along the way, Life in Motion has helped uncover all kinds of incredible stories and achievements, beyond even those of the nonprofits. Jeremy has interviewed over 100 people from around the world, each of whom have, in their own way, overcome personal challenges and obstacles, notched impressive achievements such as hiking the Appalachian Trail or rowing across the Atlantic, discovered meaning and purpose, and contributed to or often even created communities of their own.
Travel and, in particular, outdoor activities are a central theme to each conversation. Jeremy's guests are rock climbers, kayakers, cyclists of all types, people who embrace camping, hiking and just the general spirt and energy of being outdoors. This is a podcast you can take with you on your next adventure! Download a few episodes to your phone and away you go.

Learn Spanish and Go takes you on travels through the world's Spanish speaking regions and countries (with a goal of eventually visiting each and every one), to help you improve your conversational Spanish and make the most of your experience.
https://spanishandgo.com/podcast
Hosts Jim y May, who have each learned a 2nd language as adults, are your guides, giving you the opportunity to learn a language the best way possible: through immersion.
Learn Spanish and Go episodes have joint Spanish/English titles, and English descriptions, but the audio itself is entirely in Spanish. Your challenge is to recognize certain words, and to look for those cues that help point you towards the subject of a conversation.
You'll often realize that you may know more words than you expected, likely because it's simply the pronunciation that is different. Before long, more and more connections are made and your Spanish will be getting stronger and more comfortable.
To help with the process, there is also the option of purchasing a Podcast Membership, with transcriptions (including interactive transcripts), English explanations, a comprehension quiz and a private Facebook group. Thus you are supporting the podcast, and fast-tracking your learning even more. It's a great business model for podcasters, while equally being of tremendous value for listeners.
Learn Spanish and Go is about as far from dry verb and grammar charts as you can imagine. One of the most enjoyable features of the podcast is the fact that there is so much emphasis on travel topics, from country profiles to understanding various dishes and ingredients, to transport and music. Because you'll likely have an interest in what the conversation is about, you'll be paying much closer attention and will enjoy learning the information just as much as learning the language at the same time.
The show is in turn a reflection on learning languages, especially as an adult. It's usually ourselves who get in the way, not anything chemical or biological. We're afraid to make mistakes or to look or sound foolish. It's human nature. But, as Jim and May say, "Failures are lessons to help you remember the correct way to do it the next time."
So focus on the conversations: listening to and understanding how people converse on a normal, everyday basis. Start connecting the vocabulary that you know. Take it a step at a time, and as soon as you can, hop on down to México, Guatemala, Ecuador or any of their neighbours and put your Spanish to good use!

Meet Esteban Solano, a Mexican living in Québec, Canada, and the host of the Solano Travel Podcast. Esteban is an artist, musician, comedian and chef who, since 2020, has also been a podcaster.
He launched Solano Travel to share the stories of his adventures through places like Greece, Hungary, Montenegro and Turkey, from wild nights to dodging passport controls.
https://www.solanotraveler.com/
It has evolved into a platform to introduce people to his native Mexico, and encourage them to really see and explore the country, to buy local and get off the beaten path. Esteban points out there is European-style cultural and linguistic diversity, yet all within one country.
Simultaneously however, Esteban found he had an audience in Mexico following him and his adventures, and wanting more advice about travel options and destinations.
Hence a "2-in-1" style podcast, which caters to both Spanish speaking and English speaking audiences, by alternating episodes in each language.
There's a bit of something for everyone, whether it's improv comedy, understanding Mexican cuisine, Salsa dancing (in Québec no less), snapshots of places around the world from Italy to Melbourne to Israel, all with a joyful, lighthearted spirit.
Solano Travel is coming into two years of steady growth and creativity, so follow along with Esteban and his photographer partner Anna as they develop more exciting projects and ideas over the coming months.

Founded in 2016, The Earful Tower profiles all things Paris: culinary secrets, famous and lesser-known attractions, neighbourhood identities, family life, daily life, fashion insights, photography ideas: and that's just scratching the surface.
https://theearfultower.com/
Host Oliver Gee delivers all of this in an entertaining, witty, informative and engaging manner, either through solo episodes exploring around town, often featuring his wife Lina as co-host, or through guests as diverse as comedians, politicians, tour guides and supermodels.
If you have a curiosity for Paris, an aspiration to go, a longing to return and ultimately, the desire for it to be a part of your life, The Earful Tower is here for your playlist.
Oliver has built the show to over 2 million downloads, 300+ episodes, recognition from podcast awards and the NY Times and, most impressively, a full time production company that creates not just regular weekly episodes, but premium Patreon content, regular Instagram photos, blog posts, a weekly newsletter, a YouTube channel, a digital travel guide and three published books.
It is a model for any travel podcaster, established or aspiring, to look to, to see how it's done and how to make your subject, whether it's a destination or a concept, the star of the show.
Oliver has learned how the underlying theme and purpose of the podcast will filter through with each guest. A baker may talk not just about their pastries and baking techniques, but then a favourite bench to go enjoy it while watching the sunset over the Seine. A musician may mention their favourite bar or outdoor stage while talking about a performance they did.
No matter the topic or guest, "You're gonna get a lot of Paris out of every episode."

10:34 - How to multi-purpose content effectively, between platforms and mediums.
11:15- Why you don't need to "tease" your loyal, dedicated listeners. Show them what they'll get, and they'll go listen to it, because they want the podcast experience.
14:09 - The theme of your podcast will shine through by letting your guests relate back to it in their own words.
20:26 - Being direct about your Patreon offers, what's included and why it's important for the show. People who love your show are looking for ways to support you.
21:34 - Focus on putting good, quality, useful and fun offers out there.
23:42 - The benefits of your premium content could outweigh the cost of not buying it, whether saving people time or money.
24:44 - On making the most of opportunities, in the moment, especially when you're unprepared!
26:10 - How the right balance of background environment and engaging content can create a magical ambience.
27:29 - Equipment recommendations for field recording, including Oliver's advice on smartphones.
29:00 - Allow the low barrier/cost of entry to podcasting to allow you to simply start, and focus on creating something entertaining, interesting and informative (Oliver's triangle of content creation).
32:09 - Don't let the bear get away!
32:59 - How to reassure yourself that a destination/theme like Paris is truly a bottomless source of topics and episodes.
33:38 - Why Oliver's experiment with doing a season of episodes that took place outside of Paris, profiling a long road trip, was not received as expected. The "ongoing journey" without knowing if there is an ending can be a little off-putting.

"My life has been so much better thanks to the people I've met. 500 new people that I would never have known."
Randell Carlton Green's podcast, Any Given Runway, introduces listeners to fascinating people from around the globe, guided by the message: "Everyone has a story, each person a scholar."
https://anygivenrunway.com/
When travelling, or travelling vicariously through a podcast, the best way to connect with people is to talk about their interests. Randell embraces this, starting by asking himself, "What do I know nothing about?"
It helps to be insatiably curious when you're a podcast host.
Indeed, Randell could probably interview the same person half a dozen times and uncover different topics in each conversation. But, Any Given Runway is a show about diversity, whether it's in people, places, topics, ideas or especially, perspectives.
The podcast is a delightful mix of athletes, artists, adventurers, authors, performers, and everyday people who may not fit into a single box or category. He has chatted with MMA fighters, mountain climbers, DJ's, freedivers, digital entrepreneurs, vocalists, ballet dancers, contortionists, skeleton athletes, solo travellers, soldiers and comedians. And that is very much just scratching the surface.
A quick flick through his list of episodes, the guests and their activities, will leave you with the tricky yet exciting choice of where to start.
Randell and I chat about the valuable life lessons learned, especially over the past couple years, and seeing how they are applied:
How he has so much more motivation now to pursue goals and projects.
How he has a greater appreciation for accountability, especially to yourself.
Learning about resilience, and how so many of his guests have overcome odds and pushed through obstacles.
The most common answer to, "What have you learned over the past two years?" - Jettison that negative energy. It's not worth your time, and life's too short.
Any Given Runway is a textbook example of how interviewing and focused conversation is one of the great pathways to learning and personal growth.
We chat a bit about Randell's volunteer travels to Poland, and his upcoming one to the Romania/Ukraine border, volunteering for World Central Kitchens. Organizations such as Workaway help people find places to volunteer, and at varying lengths and types of work.
With underlying themes of travel, adventure, self-growth and resilience, Any Given Runway provides a platform for telling your story, and embracing knowledge and discovery.

Travel Podcast the World is happy to support "A Roof for Jorge" project, fundraising to build a new roof for an indigenous family in Panajachel, Guatemala. It is the initiative of Nelia Hutt, host of Giving Starts With You podcast, and an early guest on this show (Episode 5, March 1, 2022).
Nelia met Jorge and his family on her trip to Guatemala, which she talks about in our episode together, and has maintained contact with them. They are in dire need of a new roof for their house, costing approximately $1800 USD. Her Go Fund Me campaign is raising funds for this cause, a perfect example of travel creating giving opportunities, and a way for all of us to contribute in a direct, existential way to a very meaningful result.

When life, distance and a pandemic had been keeping two great friends apart for too long, what did they decide to do about it?
Start a new travel podcast! Wanderlusting Wives, a means to escape to exotic, exciting destinations, indulge in travel dreams and fantasies, and discover new corners of the world to add to your list.

Co-hosts Allison Endres and Regan Todd join us on this episode of Travel Podcast the World to chat about how they decided on doing a podcast together, how quickly they jumped in to get started, and what the adventure has been like so far.
They both have deep roots in travel, coming from family vacations and road trips when they were young, and have since added extensive overseas trips to more domestic explorations, giving their listeners a nice balance.
To this end, their episodes are a combination of their own personal experiences, inspiration from special guests, and discussions about travel themes such as methods of transport and the importance of exposing kids to travel.
As the world opens up again and people get back out there, feeling more confident to dream and plan adventures, their podcast will evolve and expand from reminiscences to sharing the new experiences that will come from future trips.
Wanderlusting Wives is a great example of keeping the dream alive, using podcasting to allow your passions to persevere, and of just diving in to get started. Like travel itself, podcasting is a journey with all sorts of surprising twists and turns.

Few things are more relatable than driving, and virtually all of us can recount a driving story or two, whether a close call, a short cut that turned into a wild detour, maybe a hitchhiking experience or a breakdown in the middle of nowhere.
Any one of which would make for great podcast material, and fortunately there is a podcast that does exactly that.
Drive With Us Podcast features both professional drivers and everyday folks sharing their driving stories and adventures, whether travelling, driving for work or even just commuting daily.
Hosts Bhavneet and Taranjit encourage their guests to uncover the details, set the stage and tell a good story, making for great entertainment but also some real food for thought, as you become much more conscious of your own driving and being perceptive and defensive when behind the wheel.
The best part is, YOU can be on the show too! Visit their website and you'll easily find the form where you can apply to come on the podcast and share your experiences. Bhavneet and Taranjit have earned plaudits for their guest vetting and preparation process, so even if it's your first time on a podcast, you'll be in very good hands.
Drive With Us takes you to destinations around the world, from Africa to New Zealand, Europe, South America and all around the United States. It's a travel podcast with a niche focus, equally entertaining and educating, and a thoroughly enjoyable listen.

If you can, go.
If you can't go, for whatever reason, do the next best thing: listen to a great travel podcast!
James Hammond is one of many who turned to podcasting when travel became severely curtailed, and we are the better for it. Winging It podcast combines conversations with other travellers with anecdotes from James' many and varied travels, from Australia and New Zealand to Southeast Asia and South America.
With new episodes every week, James has been publishing consistently since he launched the show in early 2021, and is steadily building up a loyal fanbase.
As reflected in the title, Winging It emphasizes pushing your comfort zone, not holding yourself back, and not always waiting for things to fall into place. Sometimes, we just need to take the plunge and see where travel and life bring us.
In our fun conversation today, we chat about making the most of your time and opportunities, whether that's getting work visas before you're too old, making a snap decision to buy a campervan that could be gone two hours later, or simply taking advantage of the flexibility and freedom that's just a bit more accessible if you're not juggling kids and a mortgage at the same time.
James' plan is to take his show on the road later this year, and document his travels in audio form, in real time, on a big road trip around North America.
We talk about the logistics of recording on the road, the excitement of doing in-person interviews, and the challenge of capturing the sounds of a place in real time.
Hang out with James on the Winging It travel podcast, and rediscover the joy of adventure.

You know how you check into a hostel, go set your bag down in your room, then head back down to the kitchen/common room to see who you might meet, and what conversations you might have?
It's a great part of travel, full of serendipity and spontaneity.
Luke Richardson has set out to capture that feeling on his podcast, the "Travel Now Podcast," combining stories, advice and guidance, with real recordings from the road as he heads back out there to travel and discover.
The focus is on quality conversations with fellow travellers, now matter how experienced they are, how big or how small, or how many followers they have. A chance for anyone to talk about their travels and the things they've seen and learned.
Luke is a published author, a writer of thriller novels, with a travel angle in each. Wanting to share his travel experiences, and create characters around that, his books follow a pair of detectives who find missing people around the world.
In our conversation today, we talk about the practicalities of travel, but also some of the deeper questions. About having profound, life-changing, deeply memorable experiences when travelling.
Perhaps it's culture shock, the environment, the people, feeling overwhelmed. But the thrill of pushing through that and acclimatizing, the achievement of persevering, is a high we often keep searching for but may never find again.
The Travel Now Podcast is an introspective, thought-provoking show that will remind you to think about travel while you travel. Queue it up in your player, and relax into it.
