There are some truths in the Bible that can be more difficult than others. Sometimes we have to wrestle with those truths. I've been there and thankfully we serve a God who meets us in our doubt and questioning. However, what the Lord revealed to me is that ultimately, it doesn't matter how I feel about God's truth, it matters that I submit to it. This isn't harsh, nor is it an invalidation of how I feel, It's realizing that I'm not God and I don't know best. If I refuse to live under the care of His truth, no matter how I feel or think about it, I'm choosing to step outside of His beautiful design of abundant life, given to us through Christ. Verses: Proverbs 28:26 Proverbs 3:5 Job 38 2 Timothy 3:16
Our emotions often lie to us about who God is and about who we are in Christ, but instead of looking to the truth of scripture we just believe the lies. I mean aren’t we exhausted? Are we not drained from carrying the weight of lies? I’m an emotional person and at times it feels as if my emotions overwhelm me. It feels as though at times I can’t shut the lies out. It’s discouraging. Good News? There is another way to live. Want to know something the enemy doesn’t want you to know? You are not helpless against believing the lies. Through Jesus we have been freed up to choose to believe truth, to choose to live life abundantly. I can believe that God is good despite my circumstances because truth isn’t dependent upon how I feel. I can believe that God loves me and sees me as clean through His son because, despite what I feel, I know what truth (scripture) says. I don’t trust in my feelings, I trust in the truth of Christ. Yes, easier said than done, but that abundant life Christ calls us to? It’s not a fairytale, a lie, or something unattainable. Jesus has made it available to me & you, we’re just missing it. This episode is something the Lord has really been laying on my heart. How we read the Bible matters. If we read the Bible as though it’s about us and that it’s primary purpose it to teach us how to live more like Jesus, or to tell us how much God loves us, we’re reading it wrong. Yes, those are reasons for the Bible, but they aren’t primary reason. The Bible exists to glorify God by revealing to us the character and nature of God. This is important because it changes the way we should approach reading scripture - tune into this episode to find out how!
