Diverticulosis is a condition that describes small pouches in the wall of the digestive tract. About 20% of people with diverticulosis experience additional complications. This condition is quite common and occurs in 10% of people over 40 and 50% of people over age 60. Diverticulosis increases with age and affects almost everyone over age 80. However, these numbers are only a gross estimate as most people with diverticulosis do not experience any discomfort or symptoms.
