Wilson County is experiencing a rash of vehicle burglaries and thefts, and the county sheriff’s office is warning residents to take precautions. Since the beginning of the year, approximately 100 vehicle burglaries have been reported, and about one-fourth of these also involved vehicle thefts, according to Wilson County Sheriff Jim Stewart. However, in May alone, 42 vehicle burglaries were reported, and nine vehicles were reported stolen, Stewart said. The vehicle owner generally discovers th...
AUSTIN — Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson has issued two official advisories reminding county registrars of their duty to maintain accurate voter rolls and giving direction for removing ineligible individuals including non-citizens, felons, and deceased voters. “Clean voter rolls are the first line of defense to preserve secure elections,” said Secretary Nelson June 4. “We must ensure our voter lists are up to date, and now is the time to prepare.” Although the Secretary of State updates ...

A hay baler is fully engulfed Sunday evening, June 9, on U.S. 181 between C.R. 350 and Cimarron Drive north of Floresville, as firefighters with Wilson County District 2 Emergency Services arrive on the scene. “We sent two units — an engine and a brush truck — to extinguish the fire,” District 2 Lt. Braden Yow said. The people on the scene had already disconnected the baler from the tractor, saving it from catching on fire, too, he said, adding that the baler was a total loss. “Thank God I wa...
Taxpayers who missed the April tax filing and payment deadline should file as soon as they can. The IRS offers resources to help those who may be unable to pay their tax bill in total. Those who missed the deadline to file but owe taxes should file quickly to minimize penalties and interest. Taxpayers should keep in mind that payments are still due by the April 15 deadline, even if they requested an extension of time to file a tax return. An extension to file is not an extension to pay. Depen...
Dear Dave, I’m trying hard to get control of my money and get out of debt, but I had a situation come up the other day, and I really don’t know what to do. I’m one of four brothers, and our parents’ fiftieth wedding anniversary is early next month. My two oldest brothers got together and made plans for a party without consulting the rest of us. They want everyone to chip in [post_excerpt],000 to help pay for things. I love my mom and dad, but the only savings I have is [post_excerpt],000 in m...

Editor: All our anxieties and efforts to prevent our lives from becoming a disaster by democratic design are now paying off. Finally, through the fog of deception, we discover the left will lose because they have no basis in reality, which is critically necessary to human survival! That is the breach of their weakness. We must now push all elements of our logic, hard work, discipline, diligence, efficiency, and rage about what is being done to destroy our bliss into an undefeatable wall that ...
Editor: Re: “From the Left: Why it should matter” Wilson County News, June 5 The “From the Left” contributor again subjected readers to the Democrats’ talking points that are being used to confuse people about the facts instead of talking about real issues that affect all of us. Like Trump, or don’t like Trump, the facts are: •The venue of Trump’s trial was not fair; why not have it in a part of New York where there are equal numbers of Republican and Democratic voters? •Why not have a judge ...

D-Day ... I was there

2024-06-1100:55

Editor: Yesterday I was watching the June 6 celebrations in France and Great Britain. I was crying when the 99-year-old was singing the American anthem. He was 19 on June 6, 1944, and survived D-Day — but many did not. I was 5 years old in Poland when D-Day happened, and I remember — ruins and bombs and I specifically remember the time when United Nations Relief packages were coming with Oreo cookies. They were so good! When I came to America years later, I bought Oreo cookies, but they didn’...
