I got interviewed for a change . So I thought it might be a good way to start Season 4. I had spent the day recording the forthcoming Girobabies album and was a few hours away from going to Mexico when David Foote asked me if I would like to do an interview for the Davidicemal podcast in Sound Sound studios where we already were. So here it is. Morphamish co-hosted and produced as always. Check out their show here: https://bit.ly/thedds  . In today's episode we discuss why I was leaving for Mexico, the history of my bands The Girobabies and Jackal Trades plus how I got involved in festivals and podcasts. I haven't listened back but remember feeling happy , relaxed and slightly wasted. One of the songs we had recorded that day was 'Landfill Culture' which is out now on all platforms: http://linktr.ee/girobabies This show has no adverts, no sponsors and no fiunding nbecause we are powered purely by our patreons over at http://patreon.com/youcallthatradio and Ko-fi supporters here: http://ko-fi.com/youcallthatradio  Inject more YCTR into your life by checking out our other platforms here: http://linktr.ee/YCTR
How do you finish a season of amazing guests? Well you release one of the biggest guests we have ever had all the way from New York. Gordon Raphael . The guy who produced The Strokes first two albums and has worked with the likes of The LI=ibertines, Ian Brown, 808 state, reggina spektor and the wildehearts. And to make it even more interesting this was recorded in front of a live studio audience at Blitkreig record shop in the barras. Thanks to Lucy at Wordvillle for inviting me to interview one of the biggest music producers of all time. He was a fascinating guy to speak to . I am delighted, and surprised to get the green light to release this one as it was under lock and key for a year or so but now we can finallly release it to the world. Some amazing tales of the rock n roll lifestyle and produding groundbreaking music with international superstars. Probably one of the biggest independent bands in the UK right now and one of my personal festival favourites, we chat to the sound of Bristol,  Dutty Moonshine of Dutty Moonshine Big Band.  And at the time of this conversation the band were in the top 10 iTunes chart which is an incredible achievement for someone unsigned . They also tour Europe relentlessly and headline the big stages at the big festivals to tens of thousands of people on the regular. This is a fascinating insight to the behind the scenes mechanics of being able to make it happen without major backing. He shares tips, secrets and the hard work and reality behind it all. So even if you don't know the band you are gonna learn something today. He shows us behind the smoke and mirrors and gives a modern day account of touring, social media and how his band have been so successful. Like the last couple of episodes this was recorded a few months back now . I think October 2023 if memory serves me right, but everything is still relevant or even more relevant than it was then . Season 4 coming soon remember we have no sponsors, no funding and no adverts so if you want to support what we do then go to http://patreon.com/youcallthatradio check our what else YCTR does over here: http://linktr.ee/YCTR
Tam Dean Burn is the voice you hear every time you listen to an Irvine Welsh audiobook. He sings for a band called The Scars and also been part of a Rabbie Burns punk fusion band called The Bum Clocks. And as an actor has appeared on The Acid House movie by Irvine Welsh and everything from River City to Outlander. As I said last time, this is another classic episode that was recorded and streamed live on youtube but deserves to be on the audio podcast pipeline for posterity. This was recorded last summer so if we talk about a gig happening next week you have already missed it.We have two more classics after this and then we will be caught up to 2024 where we start season 4.remember we have no sponsors, no funding and no adverts so if you want to support what we do then go to http://patreon.com/youcallthatradio and much gratitude to everybody who does already support the patreon.
A conversation I had with musican, comedian and viral sensation Zara Gladman who has since sold out two nights at Oran Mor as part of teh Glasgow Comedy Festival. This was recorded in late August 2023 the day before we were both interviewed at the Edinburgh fringe, by Darren McGarvey at The Stand. Since then , Zara's profile has skyrocketed with one of her characters 'West End Maw' probably becoming one of the most famous skits but there is many, many other sides to Zara as we discuss everything from her Lady Gaga parody to her Tik Tok fame as well as discussing A.I, Barbie and meeting Gerard Butler in Partick. She will be doing the 'Zara Gladman & Friends' show again by popular demand on June 13th 2024 at Oran Mor.  Tickets here: https://tinyurl.com/yvu39fxj This is one of four classic interviews from 2023 that I never had the chance to upload so once these are released then Season 4 begins for 2024.  We have no sponsors, no funding and no adverts so if you want to support what we do then go to http://patreon.com/youcallthatradio and many thanks to all the people who already do . YCTR is not possible without you. We are more than an audio podcast. The intro was done by me so apologies if the first couple of minutes sound a wee bit tinny. Still haven't got my studio set up but it will be ready to go by Season 4.

I think my first memory of Rosie was her having my 'My oath is to the people' written on her hand as she made her first appearance in parliament. She also made headlines by going to Cornton Vale prison for refusing to pay a fine she received for her anti-nuclear protest outside parliament. Other controversies included protesting G8 on the floors of parliament, Going to Cuba and nearly getting a winch of Fidel Castro, Being a member of the Pollok Free State and the infamous Tommy Sheridan- News of the World scandal but these days she performs a dramatic and funny one woman show mixing comedy and storytelling called 'A Work in Protest' Ticket`s for You Call That Radio's GRATITUDE & ATTITUDE show here: https://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/Glas... Today we call Australia to speak to the voice of a generation Mary Kiani who is a 90s dance music ICON with her solo records and her work with The Time Frequency. One of the best conversations we have ever had on this show for sure and to balance things out we also cover an Australian band in Glasgow in the shape of Amyl & the Sniffers. I give my review of that and explain how I ended up locked out my house in a pair of jammies and slippers with two pizza boxes.
