During our last holiday break in Montenegro, Tamara spotted a rather pretty looking, red bug flying around, which landed on my multi-coloured T shirt.   After talking about this rather fetching bug, we saw a young lady opening what looked like a big trap, which indeed she was    It was full of these red insects.   We found out she wears researching these insects.   On asking why they were being trapped, we quickly learned about how, and why, the many beautiful palm trees in Montenegro were dying, and who was responsible.   It's the red Palm Weevil or Surlaš.   If you enjoy the podcast please subscribe/follow and share with a friend! Waiting in Departures at Zagreb Airport. Thoughts about my attitude to Zagreb and Why I am going to Skopje, Hope you enjoy this podcast. Your comments and Questions are really appreciated and I will do my best to answer them.
It's been an interesting day, helping to create a new adventure podcast that will be launching in the coming days. More everyday life stories from my retirement here in the "Shire". Your comments and maybe more importantly, questions are greatly appreciated.
I have been thinking, for quite sometime now, of how to create podcast episodes without having to produce them in a studio environment. Last year I played around with a new app back then, called Anchor. It wasn't really what I needed at that time, so retired the app from my mobile device. However, recently, I found out that there had been some serious updates, and felt that I should give it another test. So far so good. This episode has been created just on my One Plus 3 mobile device. How does it sound to you? Your thoughts and comments are as always very very welcome.
Digital Toxicity has been getting to me for sometime now. So, I have disengaged from Facebook and disabled comments on my YouTube channel. I feel better already to be honest. The internet is sadly becoming more and more toxic/negative, and when it comes to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the level of extreme racist, ethnic, nationalistic and other purely cruel comments has been really upsetting.   So, if you would like to engage (and we really hope you will/do) then please take the time to use our email address :)  Hope you enjoy the Podcast and if you did, then please share, like and of course Subscribe. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
I keep saying that life here in the Balkans is (for me at least), far from boring. Even everyday experiences. Take the weather for example. As usual at this time of year, we get dumps of snow, dig out the drive maybe twice a day, enjoy the woodburner and dream of when the wonderful summer days will arrive. A typical February. Things are changing. We have gone from hovering around 0 to -2 Celsius to +19. Overnight. Hope you enjoy the Podcast and if you did, then please share, like and of course Subscribe. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
On this podcast, I talk about being one of the minority. That minority that just don't get off on bronzing their body on the beach and spending almost all day swimming or messing about in the sea. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Anxiety, Consistency and a New Focus for the Podcast. It's very easy, and I mean exceptionally easy, to be influenced by content published on the internet. We all watch the majority of posts that appear in our "feeds", well maybe not read or watch, but we certainly notice them. I have been guilty of this. Not really sure why I am saying guilty, but nevertheless I have been swayed a lot but what I am exposed to. But so very much of the content "normal" people create, is not in fact normal or everyday. It's at least slightly embellished. And that's what's been digging away with me. How can I create (produce) something that reflects the stories that I want to tell, about where I live and about what I would like to share. The advice on the web is consistency, quality, etc etc. It's been adding to the anxiety I suffer with anyway, so not not positive. Without overthinking things I have decided to just be me.
Friday in Laktaši and a visit to Ćevap Fest in Banja Luka

Recently I had the opportunity to talk to Jonathan Groubert, a journalist trainer and podcasting expert, who is based in the Netherlands. Jonathan has a connection to Banja Luka. I found him some years ago through an amazing podcast (docucast), that Radio Netherlands had produced. With his Balkan connection, I wanted to find out about his views and feelings towards the region and more importantly Bosnia and Herzegovina. We also talked about the power of narrative journalism and how podcasting has developed. It seems that wherever I go in Bosnia and Herzegovina, traditional skills and cultural activities are slowly disappearing. From making instruments, to dancing and much more, the latest generations don't seem interested, and that could mean a massive impact on the heritage of not only this misunderstood country but also the wider region. I talk to Nemanja Knežević, to learn a little about the challenges he faces as the director of Banja Luka's biggest traditional dance ensemble. https://www.maslesa-folklor.org/# (Check out the website of Ensemble Veselin Mašlese. ) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrYoy9yza7k-h8jadcTV3Yw (Veselin Mašlese on YouTube.) https://www.instagram.com/anipmaslesa/ (Veselin Mašlese on Instagram). In the interview we mention Efie Derksen, a lady from the Netherlands who is also passionate about protecting local folklore and helping to promote its survival. https://livinginbosniaandherzegovina.com/podcasts/folklore-in-bosnia-and-herzegovina (Check out this Podcast to find out more.) https://myborrowedheritage.webnode.nl/ (And this extremely informative film.)
