If you’ve ever felt like the fashion industry doesn’t understand you, or that something must be wrong with you because you can’t find clothes to fit your physique, you are not alone. If you’ve ever cried in the dressing room (shoutout) or sworn off a brand because of a “how can anyone fit into something like this?” moment, it’s not you. It’s them. Here’s the thing: the average American woman wears a size 16 and about two-thirds of these women fall into the plus-size market. Think about it. If that’s the average, why do most fashion companies use a size 6 fit model to design and manufacture their clothes? If that’s the average, why is this still considered the plus-size market? Do you know the greatest female athlete of all time is? Sure, the Super Bowl was last night which is cool and all, but that makes paying homage to the greats that much more important. Today we’re talking about confidence. With some Hallmark-inspired conspiracy theories sprinkled in, no less. February is a month that preys on bringing us down. During January, we start a new year by pursuing outlandish resolutions. We literally pick out something about ourselves that we believe needs improving, dedicate our time and efforts and sanity into fixing these perceived weaknesses, and, as statistics show, we fail by the time February comes around.
