Episode 6 of Two Black Girls is here!  We open with Naomi Alleyne's, J'Adore. We then quiz our guest, founder of GetNeeks and creator of Housemates, Monique Needham on all things web shows. Monique (going by Mon for the duration of the show) gives us the low down on all things webshows from how to do it, the challenges you might face and the webshows can play in helping to change what we see on TV. As always, we finish with shout-outs: Mon gives a shout-out to the team and her close friend Mutsa of MeetMutsa.com; Vimbai gives a shout out to coffee (a love that has been well tweeted) and Lupita Nyong'o, and last but not least, Monique gives a shout-out to The Shield (yes, as in WWE) and Angela Bassett. We also give a shout out to Ella Achola and the @aintiawoman team for hosting a week of great events at SOAS. Hello and welcome to episode 5 of Two Black Girls!  We open with Native Sun's Gallery of Dreams. Then, joined by our two lovely guests, Rachel (King's College London's Women's Officer) and our good friend Jamila, we try to answer this question sent to us before we turn to the main topic of our podcast: being young black women at university. We begin with our overall experiences of university then delve deeper into our experiences of the social life, our courses and classes as well as our classmates.  As always, we finish with shout-outs: Vimbai's goes to Ava DuVernay for being awesome and for randomly following her on Twitter; Monique pays her respect to James Avery(Uncle Phil, Fresh Prince of Bel Air); Rachel gives a shout out to ULU Women's Officer Susuana Antubum, who is an example of an intersectional feminist as well as an example for all black girls in higher education, and collectively we send our send love, solidarity and strength to Mark Duggan's family following the jury's verdict on Wednesday.
Welcome to episode four of Two Black Girls! Listen in as we open with No More by Basheba. You can watch the single's video here and purchase the song on iTunes. Inspired by this article on Media Diversified, we discuss our experience of literature in schools and the impact its had on own story telling. We also briefly discuss MLE and how it should be promoted as a component of storytelling rather than banned. We finish with a quick mention of Black history organisations such as Black History Studies and Black History Walks and urge you to support the good work they do.
