In 1 Timothy 3:14-16, Paul names the “mystery of godliness” and shows it’s not our performance but a person: Jesus Christ, manifested, vindicated, proclaimed, believed, and glorified. The church, as the household of the living God, is called to hold up and guard this truth like a pillar and foundation. When Christ dwells in us, he produces the aroma of true godliness, and that inward reality then shapes how we live together. Behavior doesn’t make us godly. Godliness, Christ in us, shapes our behavior. Sermon Clip   The message notes for the sermon can be downloaded by clicking on the “save” button. Paul outlines God’s qualifications for church leaders so the church stays healthy and centered on the gospel. Elders (pastors/overseers) must be men of integrity who can teach, lead, and guard the flock. Their credibility shows up at home and in the community. Deacons lead by serving, meeting practical needs so elders can focus on prayer and the ministry of the Word. Elders lead by shepherding; deacons lead by serving. Paul addresses order in the gathered church, calling men to replace arguments with intercession and women to pursue modesty and a teachable spirit. He limits the elder/pastor role to qualified men, grounding this not in culture but in creation order (Adam and Eve). Far from devaluing women, the passage invites them to learn and flourish within God’s design so the church is unified and the gospel is displayed. “Replace arguments with intercession, and let God reorder our hearts so the church reflects his design.” Sermon Clip   The message notes for the sermon can be downloaded by clicking on the “save” button. When the news feels dark and divided, Paul gives Christians a clear first priority: pray. In 1 Timothy 2:1–7 we’re urged to offer all kinds of prayers for all kinds of people — including leaders we dislike — because such prayer pleases God. God desires people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth, and there is only one way to Him: one God and one Mediator, Jesus Christ. The stakes are eternal, so the church must be a praying people for neighbors, enemies, and rulers alike. “There is one God. There is one Mediator: Jesus Christ. So we pray for all people, because God desires all kinds of people to be saved.” Sermon Clip   The message notes for the sermon can be downloaded by clicking on the “save” button. Kicking off “Guardians of the Faith,” this message from 1 Timothy 1:1–20 shows why Paul wrote to Timothy: false teachers were infiltrating the church at Ephesus. Paul counters the counterfeits by centering on the true gospel, the Christ Jesus came to save sinners, and by reminding us that the Law exposes sin but cannot save. The gospel transforms lives (just look at Paul) and the church must wage the good warfare to protect that gospel. We guard the church not with preference or comfort but with Scripture-shaped conviction and courageous love. Know the real gospel so well that the counterfeits can’t fool you. This message explains the biblical difference between the baptism and the filling of the Holy Spirit. At conversion, every believer is baptized by the Spirit… sealed, assured, and brought into Christ’s body. The filling of the Spirit is an ongoing, repeatable empowerment for Christlikeness and bold witness as we yield, obey, worship, pray, and live on mission. Scripture also warns us not to quench the Spirit by neglecting these means of grace or pursuing sin. Every Christian has the Holy Spirit living inside them, but not every Christian is living empowered by the Spirit. Joseph’s final chapter (Genesis 50) showcases a faith that obeys, trusts, and hopes. He honors his father’s wishes despite inconvenience, forgives his brothers because he trusts God’s providence. “You meant evil… but God meant it for good.” Then he dies with confident hope that God will bring Israel home. The message calls us to choose obedience over convenience, to trust God to work good from real evil, and to anchor our hope in Christ and our true home with him. Jesus is the ultimate proof that God turns evil into good through the cross and resurrection. As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good. In this second-to-last sermon through Genesis, we explore the powerful prophetic blessings Jacob gives to his sons, with a special focus on Judah. Through Judah’s prophecy in Genesis 49, we see four vivid images that point to Jesus: the Lion, the Scepter, the Colt and Vine, and the Wine and Blood. Each image reveals a different aspect of Christ’s character, including His victory, rule, abundance, and sacrifice. This passage calls us to trust in Jesus, live in His victory, and respond with grateful obedience. He’s blood-soaked, but undefeated. He’s scarred, but risen. He’s pierced, but still reigning. In Genesis 48, we witness Jacob’s final blessing. Not just to his own sons, but also his grandsons, Ephraim and Manasseh. In a surprising reversal, the younger is blessed over the older, highlighting God’s pattern of grace that doesn’t follow human rules. Jacob reminds us to bless the next generation not just materially, but spiritually. Most powerfully, this chapter points us to Jesus… the Good Shepherd who redeems, blesses, and includes the undeserving. Whether you’re far from God or a long-time believer, grace is still for you. Christianity is not about earning anything from God. It’s about accepting the free gift that he gives us—and then living in that new identity. In Genesis 46–47, Jacob faces a foreign land when God tells him to leave everything familiar and go to Egypt. Through Jacob’s journey, we learn how to follow God when life feels uncertain: by sticking close to Him in prayer and obedience, trusting Him to provide, and choosing to be a blessing wherever we are. As believers, we are all sojourners in this world, and citizens of heaven who are called to walk with our Savior who is always with us. Stick close to your Savior. Trust in Him to provide. And use the blessing He has given you, to bless others. Sermon Clip   The message notes for the sermon can be downloaded by clicking on the “save” button. When people hurt us, the natural instinct is often revenge. But in Genesis 45, Joseph offers us a better way. One that mirrors the forgiveness and mercy of Christ. After decades of betrayal and suffering, Joseph forgives his brothers and embraces them in peace. This message walks through Joseph’s emotional reunion and outlines three steps to move beyond hurt: choosing to forgive, seeing God’s hand even in the pain, and becoming a peacemaker. “Forgiveness is not an emotion… Forgiveness is an act of the will.” – Corrie ten Boom Sermon Clip   The message notes for the sermon can be downloaded by clicking on the “save” button. In this sermon on Genesis 42–44, we see Joseph testing his brothers through a series of “final exams” that ultimately reveal their repentance and transformation. The sermon highlights four specific tests: imprisonment, silver returned in their sacks, Benjamin’s favored treatment, and Benjamin being framed. The climax comes when Judah offers himself as a substitute for Benjamin, pointing us directly to Jesus Christ, the ultimate substitute who gave His life for guilty sinners. This is the first substitution in the Bible and a clear foreshadowing of the gospel. This is the first time in the Bible that someone offers themselves as a substitute. This sets the stage for the ultimate substitute, Jesus Christ. Sermon Clip   The message notes for the sermon can be downloaded by clicking on the “save” button. In this second part of “From the Prison to the Palace,” we see how God’s timing is perfect, even when it feels delayed. Joseph waits two more years in prison before Pharaoh’s dreams create an opportunity for him to rise. Joseph interprets the dreams, gives wise counsel, and is promoted to second in command. But none of this happens by chance. God uses seasons of waiting and hardship to prepare His people for greater purposes. Joseph’s story reminds us that God’s delays are not denials… they are preparation. God’s delays are not denials. They are preparation.
