This week, we are welcoming another family member onto the bus! In Episode 21, Cammi’s brother, Don Granato, joins us! Donny is currently the Interim Head Coach for the Buffalo Sabres and has spent his entire life around hockey. He has played goalie and forward, been a coach at every level, college, AHL, NHL and Olympic, worked with the US Development Program and scouted. He’s done it all! Cammi and AJ welcome Captain of the US Sled Hockey Team, Josh Pauls, onto the bus! Josh was born without tibia bones and had both his legs amputated at 10 months old. He convince his parents to join a sled hockey team and ended up making his debut on the US Team when he was only fifteen years old. Two years later, he won gold at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympics and was the youngest player on the team. In Sochi, Josh and his teammates went on to win another gold in 2014 and a third in 2018 in Pyeongchang. This week’s special guest on the bus is Dr. Aimee Kimball! Dr. Kimball is a Peak Performance and Player Development Specialist. She is currently working for the New Jersey Devils as Director of Player & Team Development while also recently beginning work with the US Women’s National Hockey Team. Dr. Kimball has worked with teams in all different sports while also working with Olympians, professional athletes, student athletes and youth athletes. In 2009 and 2016 she was a part of the Pittsburgh Penguin Stanley Cup winning teams as their Mental Training Consultant. Over the years, she has helped multiple teams, such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, with analyzing potential draft picks. AJ, Cammi and Dr. Kimball discuss many topics including how she helps players reach their peak-performance, the types of barriers elite athletes face, how she uses what she teaches athletes in her daily life, the traits she sees in “Championship teams" plus much more! Brianna Decker is a professional ice hockey player. She currently plays in the PWHPA for the New Hampshire Region’s team, Team Women Sports Foundation, and on the US National Team. For her collegiate career, Decker attended the University of Wisconsin where she played four years and won the Patty Kazmaier Award. In 2014 in Sochi, she won a silver medal and then the gold in 2018 in Pyeongchang. In this week’s episode, Decker talks about her experience at the 2019 NHL All-Star Game, the difference between the 2014 Olympics, 2018 and preparation leading up to 2022, about coming back from her injury, plus much more! Cammi and AJ welcome Intersectionality Consultant for the Seattle Kraken, Chanel Keenan! Chanel is 22 years old and lives in the Boston area. She has Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also know as Brittle Bone Disease. Chanel fell in love with the game of hockey, but noticed that she did not see many people like her represented. Aware of the need for more inclusion in hockey, she wrote an open letter to the NHL and its organizations. In the letter, she explained that there was room to grow the game and its fan base and that, with her background, she could help spur that growth. Chanel does not allow anything to slow her down and nothing stops this girl from making a difference!
