This is a round-up of some of my favorite products I've been buying recently.Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
The Sharing Diet

The Sharing Diet

2023-03-1517:05

I came up with a diet... Well, sort of. It is probably less a diet and more my feelings on how I'd like us all to think and feel about food. This diet definitely doesn't follow the typical diet model or have rules about which foods you can and can't eat. But there wasn't a word for "philosophy and practice of eating," so I settled on diet. I hope you enjoy.Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Food Composition

Food Composition

Is cooking art, or just a craft? Maybe both? When preparing food with the intention of creating art, I believe, you end up with more satisfying and definitely more beautiful meals. In this episode, I attempt to explain what factors are at play in creating more artfully composed dishes. Hopefully this helps you understand why some dinners you've made have been gross, and others surprisingly great.  Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Is food medicine?

Is food medicine?

2023-02-2116:41

The short answer: Yes. And no. And sometimes?!This is a complex one, and to be honest, I have more questions than answers here. I hope you get something out of this episode—maybe a realization about your own feelings about the notion food is medicine. I do my best to not advocate for one side or another, but present both, so you can make up your own decision. As always, I would love to hear what you think.Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Fridge Organization

Fridge Organization

2023-01-3023:40

Some might say I'm OCD when it comes to organizing my fridge. And they would probably be right. Today, I make the wild claim that  —  Your fridge organization plays a vital role in your overall eating habits. I believe your space makes a difference to how you feel AND how you eat.  And what's more, a fridge is something you stare at constantly when thinking about what to snack on, greatly influencing your eating + cooking habits. In this episode, I do my very best to explain exactly how I like my fridge to look, and offer up some fun ideas for chic fridge decor. Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Weight Loss

Weight Loss

2023-01-2325:30

It's January. The time of year for weight loss resolutions. Sometimes I wonder what people from a different time in human history would feel about our current cultural obsession with weight loss. And maybe we're less obsessed than we were a decade ago? The trends of different body types come and go, although at least in the west, thin is very much still in.  I wanted to  gently re-frame weight loss as well as share some practical advice on "how to lose weight" in a creative and fun way?!Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
From restaurants to grocery stores to nut milks to futurist farming technology - these are my top food trend predictions for 2023.  Mostly relating to affluent areas in America, here is what I think the foodscape might look like in the year ahead. And I'm actually really excited about the direction we could be moving in! Let me know if you agree or disagree with any of my predictions — I would love to hear your thoughts! Caveat: I recognize my predictions will only relate to certain group of people and don't take into account most of the world's access to food. Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Top 5: Vegetables

Top 5: Vegetables

2022-12-0418:52

I love pretty much all vegetables. But, of course, I like some better than others. In this episode, I share my top 5 "desert island" vegetables based on a few factors:1. Shelf life2. Flavor (on it's own)3. Ability to take on flavor4. Versatility (how many ways can you eat / cook it)5. "Cuisineability" - how well it lends itself to various cuisines6. BeautyI recommend you keep these 5 on hand ALWAYS. Curious to know what made the cut (pun intended)? Tune into the episode to find out.Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Eating Styles

Eating Styles

2022-11-2229:03

This is definitely the weirdest episode I've recorded thus far. And I enjoyed every minute of it. Also — caveat — this is my own personal theory and is in no way, shape or form backed by science. However, I think it has a lot of truth to it. And it's fun! Basically I go into 3 different animal eating styles: grazers, predators and scavengers. From there, I breakdown specific animals within that category and highlight how I see this reflected in humans. Then, I share some practical advice and takeaways for the animal style you identify with most. Hopefully you walk away more confident in accepting and embracing your animal eating style.Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
It's tough to give someone a complement that carries only positive connotations. The problem is, even our best intentions to complement someone can ironically make them feel even more self-conscious about themselves. That's why I wanted to break down how NOT to complement someone, and how TO complement someone. Not claiming to be an expert here, this is just my personal opinion, so I'd love to hear if you disagree with me. But, as a self-proclaimed overly sensitive person, I think I might be onto something.Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Moderation

Moderation

2022-10-2525:58

A few years back someone told me the key to healthy eating was "moderation." And it's stuck with me ever since. In this episode, I share how I feel about moderation as it relates to food  / diet / health ect.  The good things, the maybe not-so-good things, and of course — if we should actually all be eating more moderately or not. To be honest, I laid down some pretty good points in this one! (I'm actually quite impressed with myself). But, I'll let you be the judge.Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
If I discover a food or practice is "good" for me. I am the type of person to take that advice too far. I constantly fall for the idea that if something is good, more must be better, which has actually done my overall, long term health a disservice. In this sense trying too hard works against you, right? Anyways, I wanted to share my thoughts on why many of us get caught up in the "too much of a good thing" effect. And what we can do about it.Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Sugar

Sugar

2022-10-0426:28

Honestly, I was hesitant to record this episode because I know how strongly people feel about sugar. So, instead of debating the science on sugar, I decided to share my cultural observations on sugar, i.e. comparing how we relate to it in the U.S vs. Europe. Then, I share some advice on how to enjoy sugar, if that is something you want to do. Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Cleanses

Cleanses

2022-09-1726:43

I have been feeling a little jealous of everyone in my life on a cleanse right now. Do I lack discipline  for not partaking in one myself? I got curious and  decided to do some research into cleanses — where the idea came from — the pros — the cons. And I had some thoughts to share. Not claiming to have all the answers here, just wanted to talk my feelings out loud. Would love to hear what you think.Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Recently, I took an honest look at how much I spend on food, and decided to make some changes. But! I still wanted to do my weekly shop at Whole Foods. Why?1. It's got the best selection of any grocery store in a 30 mi. radius. 2. I enjoy the ambiance of this particular Whole Foods.2. Parking is really easy. So, I decided to see if I could keep shopping at Whole Foods, and still stay in budget. Did I do it? Listen to find out. Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Red Flags

Red Flags

2022-09-0435:16

I fall for health and wellness trends pretty easily, and only later realize it was all a scam. But recently, I've gotten better at spotting phony products and services. In this episode, I break down some red flags so that you don't have to waste your money, your time, or both on things that either don't work or don't have your best interest at heart. Let's put on our discernment hats and spot some red flags. Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Four years ago, I got involved (accidentally!) in a pyramid scheme.  It's terribly embarrassing, but I share it as a cautionary tale.  I hope it prevents you from ever falling for something so awful.  If you have been the victim of a pyramid scheme, I totally understand and do not judge you whatsoever. Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Welcome to my world of exciting snacks, beverages, condiments and more.  Here is what I've have been buying and loving as of late. The products I share today are definitely worth a purchase — 10/10.Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Nutritional genetics practitioner and professor, Alexander Bear, analyzes genetic information (individual DNA samples) to help us find a style of eating that works best for us. In a class I took with him recently, I got to scrutinize my own genes and how they well they preform with different foods. It was so interesting to explore my diet in this new and different way. I know the concept of nutritional genetics sounds confusing, maybe even a bit too futuristic, but not to worry, Alex explains everything in the episode. Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
Traveling by Plane

Traveling by Plane

2022-08-0146:21

Today's episode is all about making the airplane travel experience as good as it possibly can be (health + comfort wise). I have a lot of anxiety traveling (especially by plane), so I spent some time before a recent flight thinking about ways to mitigate the exhaustion, dehydration and discomfort that I usually feel while traveling. And I even tested out my hypotheses on a flight to California (5 hours). In this episode, I share what I did well, what I would do better next time as well as my general reflections on the whole travel experience. If you, like me, are always looking to take your travel game to the next level — listen up.Instagram:@lizakeala@foodis__podcast
