The Pause is a term that reminds us to take a moment, take a pause before proceeding forward. The Pause, is used in midwifery, by French parents, and can be used in many other areas of our life as well due to the benefits. Fun fact - while we were mid-editing for this very podcast episode we realized and decided to do exactly what we are talking about - take a pause. We're excited to be back after our own little pause and share this discussion on how taking a pause can improve life in profound ways. Pregnancy, birth, and newborns are often the most popular topics in new motherhood discussion, but today we're going to navigate a less-often mentioned timeframe: five to seven months after birth.  This timeframe presents its own set of challenges, but we're not afraid to face them head on and discuss ways to overcome them and offer support to new moms that continues well past birth! Some of the topics we explore in this episode include: settling into a whole new identity the challenge of expecting a routine when it doesn't exist energy/connections shifting changes in milk supply  the importance of reaching out for support scheduling connection time with whoever supports you integrating more touch from others than the baby in your life (to sooth your nervous system) - hugs, massages, snuggles, etc. Resources: Guilt as a Tool for Growth episode Kindered Spirits: Finding Genuine Friendships in Motherhood episode Have questions? In the last couple of years there have been lots of spaces and people emphasizing the 'being' before 'doing'. But what does this actually mean? How does it relate to parenthood or life with a newborn? Jen and I have a casual convo about this topic inspired from her own personal life navigations. We touch on the doing/being balance both in parenthood and in life in general, give some examples and laugh about the paradox of 'doing' something to get to the 'being'. As always thank you for BEING an amazing pod listener... enjoy this fun convo. 💬 🍵 Some of the topics we explore in this episode include: doing all the things but nothing is working the dance of doing and being and how these are woven together releasing the outcome and how when you ground in 'being' it is easier to release the outcome in your 'doing' intention behind what you are doing - tuning into what is in alignment for YOU in the moment what exactly is doing and being - how do you define it parenting advice and when do we act from the noise of advice vs. our inner guidance reaction vs. response and how this relates to doing vs. being relating the 'doing' and 'being' to labor and how life phases are like birth cycles "who do I want to be and what's my intention in doing this" the act of self-care as doing Resources: our intentions workbook and intentions meditation recording - sign up on this page to get these for free Kathrine Zenkina's podcast episode that had the quote we mentioned + is a great follow-up episode to this on when to take action and doing/being balance -- her quote "I always laugh at that question whenever someone asks me what they need to do to be. If there is a doing that leads to a being when they have to be a being... so there is no doing to the being, it's just the being." our episode on parent rest and sleep (we talk about taking the edgy actions to BE a person that prioritizes self care) our episode about unsolicited advice (also can lead to 'doing' first) Have questions? As parents (especially new ones) we are always trying to do what is best for our kiddos. Many of us have heard the term "breast is best" and know the many benefits of breastmilk. However, what isn't promoted as much is the beauty and balance of the use of formula, donor milk or some other supplemental option as a tool that that can be incredibly beneficial. Jen and I want to start a new saying that came out of this conversation: "Fed with love." We talk about how intention and love in whatever way you feed you kiddo is really what is best for everyone. Oh hey sexy mama! 😉 Yes - that's right... we are looking at YOU. Even if you haven't given birth yet there is no doubt that postpartum body image is A THING. There is so many mixed (and usually non-supportive) messages we receive about our bodies post birth. Once you have given birth it is so important to really love our bodies - wherever they are at. Your body has done incredible things (and continues to do incredible things as you support your baby). While developing this love relationship with our bodies can feel difficult there are lots of simple reminders or little practices that can help. Sleep as a parent is a VERY hot topic. For both child and parents alike. Often the the common advice of "sleep when the baby (or kid) sleeps" can feel triggering. In the chaotic world of parenthood, that advice often seems impractical. In this episode, we discuss not only why resting is important but how to approach and look at resting as a parent in practical ways. We also cover how to tune-in and listen to when your body is signaling to you it wants some extra rest before you hit complete burnout. We see you. We see the challenges you all face when trying to prioritize rest. Our hope is the tips we share today inspire some new ideas on how you can recharge a little more when your body needs it. We all know how hard it is to get advice from someone (or lots of people) when really we just need to be supported in other ways. Being in this situation through a conception, pregnancy or parenting journey can fell 10 times harder and also be 10 times more triggering. Unsolicited advice is unavoidable, but can be greatly reduced and easier to navigate if we can set boundaries, trust our intuition and learn to not take it all in. This convo dives deeper into the topic and gives some practical tips and tools for those moments where you find yourself on the receiving end of advice may or may not have asked for. Some of the topics we explore in this episode include: practicing communicating boundaries honoring our feelings and body and trusting our intuition examples of unsolicited advice coming up with your phrase to respond to unsolicited advice and practicing them how we are more tender to words in our postpartum phase writing down what triggers you so you can see patterns and find tools to help support your boundaries in specific areas knowing that you can take or leave any advice you get - use what feels good and works for you tips for advice from medical professionals handling advice from online and virtual spaces picking your top ‘go-to’ people for who you trust or will go to for advice tips for giving advice to a person on their parenting journey Some quick example phrases for unsolicited advice: Thank you, but I’ve got this. Today we dive into the oh-so delightful world of names. The inspiration for this convo came out of our own stories around naming our kiddos and ended up expanding into so many other interesting aspects around names and naming in general. Some of the topics we explore in this episode include: how we chose our children’s names having a different last name as your child the lesser known fact that you DON’T need to name your child immediately after birth (even in a hospital) kids changing and ‘trying on names’ as they get older the sound/frequency of names Resources: six healing sounds of Chinese medicine Have questions? Friendly reminder: It's ok to slow down. In this episode we explore the importance of slowing down and the huge impact it has on any phase of life but especially on the motherhood journey. Slowing down is a simple act, yet so hard to do. It's also a super magical practice that can can create huge (often unexpected) differences in our life. Some things we cover in this episode: what slowing down means to us how and why slowing down is important in any phase of your journey (from conception into years after birth) how to transition between slow pace life and slowing down and our modern fast paced world the impacts of slowing down on your own healing, self-care, and connection to baby and others being intentional of what you let INTO your life (from media to people you are around) as a practice to slow down  the pace of babies vs. children vs. adults the weird magic of slowing down to actually speed things up and create MORE in the long run how slowing down can help you conceive/manifest (a baby or anything in life) going slow as a ritual AND the flip side of using small rituals to slow down Resources: setting intentions is a great practice for slowing down and grounding into the moment. Who doesn’t love a good massage? (Don’t be shy - we know we have the non-massage preference listeners out there 😉 ). Whether you love or hate massage there is sooo many reasons why incorporating massage before, during and after pregnancy and birth is beneficial. That could be self massage, massage from your partner or a friend, or a professional massage.
