Google says its new quantum chip indicates that multiple universes exist - are they correct? William Munizzi discusses Google "Willow" and the Many Worlds Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics. We start out by exploring the evolution of the General Atomics MQ-1 Predator Drone into the armed MQ-9 Reaper, and some of the psychological effects associated with flying an armed vs. surveillance aircraft. We also discuss some of the advantages & challenges associated with remotely piloted vehicles - and perceptual changes from flying remotely piloted vehicles in crews assigned to them. Drone aircraft are the beginning, and we explore how the cost & safety benefits of RPV's are being applied to tanks & land vehicles such as the Milrem TheMIS, Ripsaw M5 Robo-Tank, Miloš UGV, Gladiator TUGV, Foster-Miller TALON, and more. We also discuss robotic platforms such as the the GNOME, FEDOR, and well-known Boston Dynamics Atlas. Great Britain and the USA are both exploring Artificial Intelligence to allow drones to decide when to pull the trigger themselves, which takes the ultimate control of warfare out of direct human hands and moves people into a planning & oversight capacity. In the space of 20 years, we’ve gone from remote piloted surveillance aircraft to fully automated killing machines that make their own decisions about combat. Dr. Gerald Q. Maguire, Jr. discusses Neuralink, Synchron & the future of brain implant technologies themes from his paper, "Becoming Borg to Become Immortal". Last year, Neuralink implanted their first patient with a brain implant, and rival manufacturer Synchron has already enrolled six patients - forcing us to confront the question of whether brain implants have different moral & ethical concerns than other parts of the body, or do they highlight existing ethical questions that haven't been adequately addressed? Dr. Maguire and co-author Ellen McGee wrote "the potential of brain implants to change and significantly affect humans is potentially far greater than that of genetic or drug enhancements", because implants open the door to new information, whereas genetics & drugs can only improve what's already there. Brain implants are a miniaturization of information technologies we already use - like smartphones & wearables. Over time our digital appliances have gotten smaller, and Maguire argues that they will inevitably become part of bodies - and in a sense, we will become part of the Borg. Dr. Gerald Q.
