A New Halloween Color
Description
Hello, this is Dory. Welcome back to Dory’s English Palette, where we listen, learn, and grow together.
A New Halloween Color
Chloe: Nelson, have you seen this article about Halloween? It’s very surprising.
Nelson: No, but I’m interested in finding out more.
Chloe: Well, it seems that since 2018, blue has become a new color for Halloween buckets.
Nelson: Blue? Why have people started using blue Halloween buckets?
Chloe: It all began with Alicia Plumer and her 21-year-old son. He loves Halloween, but he is autistic and has difficulties with social interactions. Alicia realized that some people might not understand his situation, so she came up with the idea of a blue Halloween bucket.
Nelson: Do you mean she gave him a blue bucket instead of the usual orange one?
Chloe: Yes. She thought that when people saw it, they would understand that the person has special needs.
Nelson: That’s very smart of her. How did she spread the word about the blue bucket?
Chloe: She posted about it on Facebook, and it touched many people. The post was shared over 28,000 times.
Nelson: That’s wonderful. I never get tired of hearing stories about kindness. Thanks for sharing.

So, after listening to this conversation,
what do you think about the idea of the blue Halloween bucket?
For me, after reading this, I feel deeply touched by how thoughtful the mother was.
But I also saw different opinions online. Some people feel that maybe those with special needs don’t want to “stand out” or draw attention to themselves by carrying a blue bucket.
They feel that the idea might not be as considerate as it seems.
What about you? What do you think?
