But I know that there are Black philanthropists who have created foundations and who are engaged in education. We should be writing about them and thinking about them and their grantmaking as well! That is why I have set out to explore black philanthropists, their foundations and their grantmaking in education in the United States to better understand how a broader, more diverse capturing of philanthropy enhances our understanding of what counts as philanthropy in America." - Jeremy Martin
