... with Marios Ngassam on Selling Dreams and Curating Private Collections
Description
In this episode of WAS MIT KUNST, Johann König speaks with Marios Ngassam, Berlin-based art consultant and founder of Art_MaisonMarios, an advisory that goes far beyond traditional art dealing.
Born in Cameroon and raised in a family of traders, Ngassam discovered early on his talent for reading people’s needs and creating meaningful connections through business. Inspired by his mother’s boutique, he began selling at a young age and later moved through different fields: first fashion and luxury watches, then Hermès bags, followed by flowers for private residences, and interior design. Each step eventually led him to art: when friends with large homes asked for help in finding artworks that would give their spaces character and resonance.
What began organically through word of mouth soon became Art_MaisonMarios: a consultancy dedicated to helping collectors and enthusiasts acquire and curate art that not only holds value but also creates lasting meaning. Ngassam explains why, especially in the price range up to €20–30,000, personal taste should come before investment logic—and how trust is the key factor that allows advisors to make acquisition decisions on behalf of collectors.
Together with Johann, he discusses what daily life as an art advisor looks like, how private collections are curated to reflect personal aesthetics, and how he envisions making contemporary art more accessible and impactful for new generations of collectors.
A conversation about trust, taste, and the evolving role of the art advisor in shaping how we live with art.
