Big Tip of the Week: How to Optimize Your Automotive Paid Search Strategy For Mobile.

Paid Search Supervisor, Cara Garvey, at our NADA Xtreme Demo
For the tip of the week, I’m being joined by LDM Paid Search Supervisor, Cara Garvey, who tells you why having a mobile-first mentality for your paid search strategy is a must and how to make it happen.
Why do you have to be thinking mobile first when it comes to paid search? Because over 50% of all searches are now happening on mobile devices, and paid ads often take up all the space “above-the-fold”. Here’s what you can do to make sure you’re optimized for this precious mobile real estate so your campaigns succeed.
- Leverage mobile bid modifiers to secure top positions.
- Enable location extensions for “dealer nearby” ad format.
- Clear CTAs in ad copy.
- Enable call extensions for click-to-call.
- Use location bid adjustments to reach nearby customers.
To get the lowdown on why those strategies are a must, and how to set them up, check out Cara’s latest blog!

Big Question of the Week
And now it’s time for what’s turning out to be a fan-favorite segment of the show…it’s time to Ask an Expert!
Today we’re bringing in Paige Martin, Analytics Team Lead at LDM to answer this burning question sent in by a listener who wished to remain anonymous to protect his or her identity.
BIG QUESTION: My organic traffic is down. Like way down. What can I do, other than panic?
Here’s a quick video of Paige showing us what NOT to do when you see alarming data like this.
While seeing a significant drop in organic traffic can be concerning, a little digging can sometimes show that the decline is for totally logical, harmless reasons that don’t affect conversions or sales. Here are the steps you need to take before you hit the panic button.
- Segment your Google Analytics traffic so you’re only looking organic.
- Look at is how your organic traffic is performing by city. This will narrow down any specific area that could be causing the lower overall organic traffic. Has something changed with your traditional advertising?
- Next, look at how your organic traffic is performing on each device type. For example, if you see organic down for mobile you will want to ask yourself if your mobile paid search strategy changed.
- Check user types (returning vs. new). It’s possible that folks on your team artificially inflated your organic traffic.
- Navigate to the landing page report in GA which may reveal that some awesome content that was driving organic traffic last year may not be relevant this year – thus resulting in an overall decline in organic traffic. Good news: you just need to update your content!
Those are just the Cliff Notes, so if you need more specific help with screenshots and detailed step-by-step instructions, check out Paige’s full blog post on how to investigate a decline in organic traffic.
