Description

In this second of a special two-parter on the art and practice of Gabriella Hirst, an artist known for her elaborate moving image landscapes and public sculptures, we talk about the language of entanglement. In Gabriella's contemporary visions of beauty, gardening practices centre around a rare species of garden rose, the rosa floribunda 'Atom Bomb', as a site of critique and care. This episode is anchored in her How To Make a Bomb and Battlefield projects that examine structural connections between horticulture, state power, and nuclear colonialism. Pulling back the veil on Britain's historical and current nuclear armament through rare plant cultivars.
