It seemed that Warren Buffet, the world’s most successful investor, pulled an uncharacteristic whiff, buying a string of truck stops right before the whole world embraces AI. But, as the media sits spellbound by driverless vehicles, most planes, trains and, especially trucks, are still driven by humans… when you can find one. Digging into the numbers, Mr. Buffet’s investment doesn’t seem so crazy. But, according to Brian Widell, Founder and CEO of Profit Tools (later acquired by Envio), AI and analytics still need to come to the rescue, to navigate rising complexity in the world of transportation caused by an acute shortage of drivers.
