The dictionary definition of "effective is the following:

adjective

1. successful in producing a desired or intended result.


2. fulfilling a specified function in fact, though not formally acknowledged as such.

Based on this definition, I believe there is a such thing as prayer being effective... successful in producing a desired or intended result.

I think we get hung up, however, around that desired or intended result part, which could mean prayer could possibly...

Not get us us what we want.

Not be answered in the way we envisioned.

But even if that's the case, prayer can still be effective.
