128: Avoid the Habits That Prevent You from Sustainable Weight Loss
Description
If you’re a woman in midlife, chances are, you’ve experienced at least one situation where you were at an event where there was something decadent to eat. And because you were on a diet or trying to lose weight, or eat healthier, you were tempted. Maybe you were out to dinner with your spouse or friends and they brought out this tantalizing dessert tray, or maybe it was the monthly office birthday party where they were serving Costco cake, or maybe it was over the holidays and every party you went to, they had your favorite Christmas cookies that reminded you of how your Grandma’s kitchen smelled the entire month of December. And even though you kept telling yourself, I really shouldn’t eat this… you give in to temptation. And then, you felt guilty.
In this episode of Your Midlife Comeback Story, we’re going to answer the question… what separates the woman who is trying to eat better, but continues to do these mental gymnastics in her head, and then falls back into the same habits and the woman who effortlessly eats the foods that enables her to achieve sustainable weight loss?
The phenomenon that I’m about to share, I actually experienced back in 1999 when I lost 40 pounds, and I’ve been able to keep my weight within a 10 pound range of my ideal weight for the last 25 years, even though I’ve gone from being a competitive mountain bike racer to surviving breast cancer treatment and experiencing Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism, a sluggish thyroid, and being knee deep in midlife and menopause. You’re probably going to be surprised at how simple this behavioral model is.
If you are interested in learning more about what’s been preventing you from achieving sustainable weight loss, along with why you keep falling back into the same habits, then keep listening, because this episode is for you. And at the end, you’re going to walk away with one very specific action step that you can take today, to start making your journey to better health more effortless and sustainable.
Together, we will unpack:
