Welcome to our first ever combo podcast episode! That’s right, the We Grow Together Podcast and the Dealmaking with Laura DiFrancesco are releasing the same episode. It is not often that a topic of conversation aligns with both podcasts, but in recent events, we believe that this issue affects us all. The popular app, TikTok, went dark on Saturday January 18, 2025 around 10:30 pm. In this episode, Laura used her background in law to discuss the logistics of this “TikTok Ban.” Going over the basics of the United States Government, Laura discusses how this is an issue of national security and not free speech. She goes over the ownership structure of the app and its implications for data privacy for both users and non-users. The conversation highlights the mistakes made by various parties in the legal arguments surrounding the ban and the broader implications for businesses, content creators, and everyday people. This is an ever changing issue and most Americans are not educated on what this “ban” really means.
