17 Patterns of Joel Salangsang - Coffee, Cross & Community
Description
I met Joel through mutual friends. It's surprising to see the people he knew! It definitely was a small world for a San Diegan like Joel who came back from Florida after finishing College, Majoring in Advertising. He was intriguing to me, in a good way that drew me to close to his 'why'. His sense of fashion and eye for design is refreshing to see. As much as I appreciate good design, I appreciate Joel's drive and creativity. For a short amount of time I've known Joel, his conviction is contagious. He hits the right chords that can motivate someone towards self-reflection. He has a way towards leading others by example, showing others that he is willing to do whatever it takes to stay connected. As a young adult leader at his church, the birth of Basement came from his yearning to cultivate a community. Even more so, a family. An idea that in a community, friends are made and family is born. A lasting effort of showing tangible support and guidance through monthly gatherings and most of its growth happens in-between. The intention behind Basement for Joel is that at some point in life, everyone will crave to be known, heard, and loved. For someone to be there for you, even if it only takes one person showing you what it's like to be in the presence of the one who cares. BSMT is a pattern disruptor from the busy schedule and demanding priorities. It's challenging you to look around and re-evaluate what matters the most. In this conversation, we find that coffee and the people we cross paths will soon find it's way back to a common human desire which is belongingness.
