Description

Technology in the classroom is still a controversial topic. There are many that say technology shouldn't be used in the classroom and others that highlight the importance of having technology in the classroom, especially as technology continues to evolve and is becoming an integral part of society.

Dr. Leslie Gruis believes educators have a powerful role to play in shaping not just what students know, but how they understand their rights, their digital footprint, and the systems around them. Her goal is to help other educators see that conversations about technology, ethics, and even democracy belong in the classroom—and that they can be approachable, age-appropriate, and empowering.

3 KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Knowing and understanding the dangers of the internet is key to helping us, as educators, protect our students when using technology in the classroom
  • The way to help students with literacy is not to have them in front of a screen, but to ensure they are reading physical books
  • We are the examples to the next generation and too many of us are glued to our phones (myself included)
