Serial Stress Killer – Episode 29

It’s been an interesting couple of weeks for your Host, Chris Hackett. This is both Personally& Professionally; A struggle and battle which lead him to these two critical techniques which he shares with you on this episode. 2 techniques that had a considerably profound impact on his stress levels in a positive way.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  1. Recognise & Accept The Situation.

What you know

What you do

Who you talk to

These don’t always translate into success. Accepting the situation and remembering the feelings and overwhelm will pass. It is okay to take a break, just remember

it is just a feeling and the reality is that you are in no actual immediate danger.

  1. Reduced Your Stress Considerations

Sometimes, stressful things come one after the other, or all at once even! The trick is to strategize and systemize; which are priority? What needs dealing with today and what can be delayed?

You could take the challenge and tackle everything head- on, all at once. You may even feel that this is your only course of action; that every stressful item on your list is priority 1 and cannot possibly be delayed! However, this could be down to stress hormones and realistically, the reality is that you CAN put things aside to help yourself deal with each one individually.

  • Important: Routine

It is imperative you keep your routine. As easy as it is to give in and let stress disrupt your systems and routines. One of the most challenging hurdles to overcome, when you are going through stress, is maintaining the routines that serve you well. So even though you have no interest in going to the gym, force yourself to go, even if it’s just a short workout.

Although you have travelled slightly off the path, you are still headed in the same direction; Your routine isn’t massively disrupted as you have maintained it, and not given in to the stress. You have still achieved your goal, all be it a smaller version of. You can reap the sense of achievement however small, rather than the alternative of wallowing in the disappointment of giving in had you not gone at all!

So if you have routines in your life that serve you well, physically OR mentally, you may have to push a little bit harder to accomplish less. But these are the little victories in life we all need from time to time. To remind us that we are still alive and we are still in control.

If you have a lot of really stressful things going on in your life that are not connected but causing your brain and body to go into anxiety overdrive, try just recognising the situation for what it is and reduce your stress considerations.

You can always come back and deal with things in the near future. There is no shame in that and once you deal with the immediate problem, you’ll have more headspace to deal with the other stuff.
