Dr. Maq's guest is Commissioner of Madison County Alabama’s 6th District Mrs. Violet Edwards and they discuss special firsts, community engagement, advocating for all constituents’ voices and controversies over Juneteenth and confederate statues.  Mrs. Edwards is a businesswoman and former journalist that was elected to the Madison County Commission  in 2020. Upon her election, Edwards made history as the first Black woman to serve on the commission - shattering a ceiling that held for 212 years. She is the architect of resolutions that have impacted Madison County's diversity in recruitment, redistricting, and veterans' support.  This year she announced a $65K initiative to fight homelessness and launched a $1.2M project to add sidewalks and upgrade handicap-accessible ramps in her district.
