When Dame Annette King quit politics in 2017, she was New Zealand's longest-serving female MP, having spent 33 years in parliament. Highly regarded across politics, King served through 17 Labour and National leaders. She became a Dame under National and she has continued in her role as New Zealand's High Commissioner in Canberra since 2018.
