2023 NFL Mock Draft & Bryce Young’s World
Update: 2023-04-21
Description
Don’t be sad that the fantasy football season is over; be glad it happened in the first place. However, if you are among the many football enthusiasts wo play dynasty-format fantasy football, you know the season never truly ends. So while we might be staring down the barrel of the NFL offseason, there’s plenty to be done as a dynasty manager. Between now and the beginning of training camp is when champions are made. This week, Jon and I talk about some league news and do our final 2023 NFL Mock Draft before the real deal next week.
NFL News & Notes
Jalen Hurts Gets Paid
News broke this week that Eagles QB Jalen Hurts inked a five-year, $255 million contract extension. He is now the highest-paid player in league history, and $179.3 million is guaranteed. While you can debate whether or not he deserves the contract, Eagles GM Howie Roseman believes he does. So does this cement Hurts as a top-tier QB in dynasty for years to come?
Allen Robinson in Steel City
It was also revealed this week that the Pittsburgh Steelers acquired WR Allen Robinson. The trade netted them Robinson and a seventh-round pick for their seventh-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft. In what amounts to a swap of late-round draft picks, the Rams will pay $10.25 million of his $15.25 million salary for 2023.
If you were even remotely excited about this move as a Robinson manager in dynasty, I have bad news: Robinson will be a non-factor.
The Rams wanted him gone so badly that they were willing to pay the majority of his owed money for next season. That’s a bad sign for his value in Pittsburgh. Robinson hasn’t been fantasy relevant since 2020, and that isn’t going to change this year.
Bryce Young, Carolina QB of the Future?
This NFL Draft cycle has been one of the more intriguing in recent memory. As soon as we think we know what’s what, news breaks that shakes up everything. In a very jarring development this week, odds in Vegas shifted dramatically for the first overall pick. The books now have Bryce Young at -1600 to be snatched up by the Panthers, with C.J. Stroud the next closest at +800. This all could be smoke and mirrors. However, this cannot be ignored as a sign owner David Tepper and company love the young playmaker from Alabama. Will the odds hold, or will Carolina surprise everyone and go in a different direction?
Zay & Patrick Sitting In A Tree
You know the rest of the classic children’s rhyme, but did you know that incoming rookie WR Zay Flowers was summoned to Texas at the request of the Chiefs brass to privately work out with QB Patrick Mahomes?
It could be nothing, but it also could be a big something for the talented pass-catcher from Boston College. It’s no secret Kansas City’s receiving corps is one of the weakest in the league despite being reigning Super Bowl champions. The team holds the final pick of the first round, and it’s conceivable Flowers could fall to them. If he does, it seems he will land in Kansas City. However, did the workout go well enough for Andy Reid and company to trade up to grab him?
