In August, my mom welcomed a foreign exchange student from Germany into her home—and from day one, he became part of ours, too.

We’ve shared beach days in Port O’Connor, a family vacation to Mexico, and even taught him how to drive (shoutout to Frank for being the brave teacher!). My 10-year-old son absolutely adores him, and saying goodbye is going to be so hard.

Today, he joins me on the podcast before flying back home with his parents. We’re talking about everything—from the cultural differences he noticed, to his favorite memories, and how this experience has shaped who he’s becoming.

This is a reminder that family is about so much more than blood—it’s about love, shared experiences, and the people who change us for the better.
