1.  죄를 보며 마음 아파할 때, 죄를 증오하게 합니다.  (We hate sin when we have Godly sorrow).

고린도후서 7:11

보십시오. 하나님의 뜻에 맞게 마음 아파함으로써 여러분에게 얼마나 많은 변화가 일어났습니까! 여러분이 나타낸 그 열성, 그 변호, 그 의분, 그 두려워하는 마음, 그 그리워하는 마음, 그 열정, 그 응징은 참으로 놀라운 것입니다. 여러분은 그 모든 일에 잘못이 없음을 보여주었습니다.  See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.

시편 (Psalm) 97:10

주님을 사랑하는 사람들아, 너희는 악을 미워하여라. 주님은 그의 성도를 지켜 주시며, 악인들의 손에서 건져 주신다. Let those who love the LORD hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

골로새서 (Colossians) 2:14

하나님께서는 우리에게 불리한 조문들이 들어 있는 빚문서를 지워 버리시고, 그것을 십자가에 못박으셔서, 우리 가운데서 제거해버리셨습니다 . having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.

고린도후서 (Corinthians) 5:21

하나님께서는 죄를 모르시는 분에게 우리 대신으로 죄를 씌우셨습니다. 그것은 우리가 그리스도 안에서 하나님의 의가 되게 하시려는 것입니다. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

2. 죄를 보고 마음 아파할 때 순결을 사모하게 합니다. (We seek purity when we have Godly sorrow)

고린도후서 7:12

그러므로 내가 여러분에게 편지한 것은, 남에게 불의를 행한 사람이나, 불의를 당한 사람 때문이 아니라, 우리를 위한 여러분의 간절한 마음이 하나님 앞에서 여러분에게 환히 나타나게 하려는 것입니다. So even though I wrote to you, it was not on account of the one who did the wrong or of the injured party, but rather that before God you could see for yourselves how devoted to us you are.

요한1서 (I John) 3:9

하나님에게서 난 사람은 누구나 죄를 짓지 않습니다. 하나님의 씨가 그 사람 속에 있기 때문입니다. 그는 죄를 지을 수 없습니다. 그가 하나님에게서 났기 때문입니다.  No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

골로새서 (Colossians) 3:9-10

서로 거짓말을 하지 마십시오. 여러분은 옛 사람을 그 행실과 함께 벗어버리고, 새 사람을 입으십시오. 이 새 사람은 자기를 창조하신 분의 형상을 따라 끊임없이 새로워져서, 참 지식에 이르게 됩니다. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

갈라디아서 (Galatians) 5:24

그리스도 예수께 속한 사람은 정욕과 욕망과 함께 자기의 육체를 십자가에 못박았습니다.  Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.

3. 죄를 보고 마음 아파할 때, 하나님의 용서를 다른 이들에게 소개하게 합니다.  (We introduce forgiving God to others, when we have Godly sorrow)

고린도후서 7:13

그래서 우리는 위로를 받았습니다. 또한, 우리가 받은 위로 위에 디도의 기쁨이 겹쳐서, 우리는 더욱 기뻐하게 되었습니다. 그는 여러분 모두로부터 환대를 받고, 마음에 안정을 얻었던 것입니다.  By all this we are encouraged. In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus was, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you.

마태복음 (Matthew) 9:35-38  예수께서는 모든 도시와 마을을 두루 다니시면서, 유대 사람의 여러 회당에서 가르치며, 하늘 나라의 복음을 선포하며, 온갖 질병과 온갖 아픔을 고쳐 주셨다. 예수께서 무리를 보시고, 그들을 불쌍히 여기셨다. 그들은 마치 목자 없는 양과 같이, 고생에 지쳐서 기운이 빠져 있었기 때문이다. 그래서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. "추수할 것은 많은데, 일꾼이 적다. 그러므로 너희는 추수하는 주인에게 일꾼들을 그의 추수밭으로 보내시라고 청하여라."....
