Description

On this week’s episode of The RV Atlas Podcast, we put together a test that had our listeners (maybe) recognizing themselves a little too well. We call it “26 Signs You’re an RV Addict”—the official quiz to help campers everywhere determine just how deep their RV obsession runs.

The idea started small. We planned to come up with about a dozen “signs” ourselves. But then we asked for help from the RV Atlas Facebook group, and the post exploded—a hundred comments poured in from fellow campers, each describing their favorite (and most relatable) quirks of RV life. Before we knew it, we had enough material to diagnose a full-blown case of RV addiction.

So, grab a pen or keep a mental tally—because this week we’re counting points, confessing habits, and celebrating the glorious madness that comes with being an RV addict.

26 Signs You Might Be an RV Addict

  1. You have a tree full of RV ornaments.

Maybe it started with one camper-shaped ornament from a special trip—but now you’ve got so many that you need a separate Christmas tree just for them. Bonus points if you’ve ever debated what “qualifies” as a true RV ornament (souvenirs vs. camping-themed décor—yes, we’ve had this conversation). Give yourself one point if you have 10 or less RV ornaments–and give yourself two points if you have more than 10.

  2. You talk about RV YouTubers like they’re family.

If you’ve got regular dates with Josh the RV Nerd or Matt’s RV Reviews, give yourself a point for each of the shows you watch regularly.. And if your household refers to Josh as “Uncle Josh,” you’re deep in the lifestyle–so give yourself a bonus point. (We’ve met both Josh and Matt—they’re great guys, which makes the obsession totally understandable.)

  3. You’re already planning your 2026 road trips.

If you’ve started locking in campground reservations for the next year—or the next two—you might be an RV addict. If you have 2026 planned out give yourself a point. If 2027 is already on the books, add another point for extreme foresight (and possibly needing a vacation from planning vacations).

  4. You buy camping gear for everyone at Christmas.

If every gift exchange turns into a mini REI haul—headlamps for the kids, collapsible cookware for your partner, and new camp chairs for the dog—you’re one of us. Give yourself a point.

  5. You own all four Where Should We Camp Next? books.

One point if you’ve got any of our guides on your shelf—and two if you proudly display the full collection. (If you’re reading this article, there’s a strong chance you already qualify.)

  6. You get the blues when you winterize.

It’s not just about draining the tanks—it’s like saying goodbye to summer freedom. If the sight of RV antifreeze makes you emotional, go ahead and give yourself a point.

  7. You plan your next trip before you finish your current one.

If you’re sitting by the campfire scrolling Recreation.gov, you might be one campsite away from fully embracing the lifestyle. Some of us can’t help it—it’s the best kind of problem to have. Give yourself a point if you plan RV trips on your RV trips.

  8. You buy Christmas gifts for your RV.

A new rug, fancy coffee maker, decorative pillows—whatever it is, your RV deserves it. It’s practically part of the family anyway. Give yourself a point if you Christmas shop for your RV.

  9. You’ve owned multiple RVs (or maybe ten).

One point if you’ve owned more than one camper at the same time. Two if you’ve owned ten or more RVs in your lifetime. The rest of us salute your dedication (and your storage space).

  10. You have a camping nickname.

Whether it’s “Campa and Kamma” or “Black Tank Barry,” your alter ego comes alive the minute the jacks go down. Give yourself a point if you have a camping nickname.

  11. You’ve been to a major RV show (or three).

If you’ve braved the crowds at the Hershey RV Show or the Florida RV SuperShow, award yourself a point for each. Hardcore fans who’ve been to both? Three points. Bonus two points if you’ve made a pilgrimage to the RV Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Indiana.

  12. You have an Amazon wishlist just for RV gear.

You know you’re an addict when your cart looks like a campground catalog—and your “Save for Later” list is half appliances, half awning lights. Give yourself a point if you have an Amazon wishlist just for your RV.

  13. Your RV is stocked with nicer stuff than your house.

The good sheets, the better coffee maker, the upgraded grill—your camper is living the high life, and honestly, you don’t regret it. Give yourself a point if your RV is more nicely outfitted than your house.

  14. You’ve convinced someone else to buy an RV.

If you’ve turned friends into campers just so you’ll have travel buddies, congratulations—you’re officially an RV evangelist. GIve yourself a point if you’ve convinced someone else to buy an RV!

  15. You have a camping tattoo (or two).

A tiny tent, a mountain outline, maybe even an Airstream silhouette—wear your love of camping on your sleeve (literally). Give yourself a point for each camping tattoo you have up to two!

  16. You sold your house to go full-time.

If you’ve ever traded a mortgage for a motorhome, you don’t just love RVing—you’re living it. Take two points.

  17. You track your camping nights.

If you can rattle off exactly how many nights you spent in your RV last year, you’re in deep–give yourself a point. Add an extra point if you set annual goals to beat your record.

  18. You feel like your RV talks to you.

If you’ve ever walked past your camper in the driveway and heard it whisper, “Why aren’t we going anywhere?”—you’re not alone. (We swear ours does this, too.) GIve yourself a point if your RV talks to you.

  19. You collect camping memorabilia.

From vintage Coleman lanterns to Fort Wilderness mugs to Smokey Bear souvenirs—if your shelves look like an outdoor museum, you’ve earned your point.

  20. Your RV has a name.

If you haven’t named your rig yet, you’re behind. Every beloved RV deserves a name—and yes, we’re still working on one for our nuCamp Tab.

  21. A Harvest Hosts winery counts as date night.

If your idea of romance involves boondocking next to a vineyard, sipping a local red, and watching the sunset from your RV steps, you’re an RV addict (and a romantic). Give yourself a point.

  22. You’ve experienced sticker envy.

Seeing someone else’s U.S. map covered in state stickers stirs complicated emotions. Don’t worry—you’ll get there. Give yourself a point if you have ever had this kind of envy.

  23. You’ve tried to flush your home toilet with your foot.

Old habits die hard. Enough said. GIve yourself a point if you have ever done this.

  24. You have RV service pros saved in your contacts.

“Mike – RV Electrical.” “Bill – Solar Guy.” If you’ve got them saved on speed dial, you’re in the club. GIve yourself a point.

  25. You talk about black tanks like it’s small talk.

If “waste management strategies” is part of your adult conversation rotation, you’re fully immersed in RV life. Give yourself a point.

  26. You consider your online RV group your family.

When your online RV friends feel like real-life relatives (and they’ve even visited your house), you’ve officially crossed into full-on RV community life—and we love that for you. GIve yourself a point if you have made friends in your RV facebook groups!
