295. Celebrating 40 Years of Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 4
Description
Show notes provided by Joe Peluso
WE DID IT!! Your "crisis crew" of James, Keith, Richie, and Joe have
successfully navigated the madness of the multiverse and completed
their review of "Crisis on Infinite Earths".The twelve chapter event,
that changed fifty years of DC Comics history, was the challenging
assignment that the guys undertook to put their insightful spin on a
monumental classic story. Worlds lived and died, new characters were
introduced, while some old ones went away for a long time. Chaotic
battles, base betrayals, power, pathos, and peril all came to the fore
in a saga that left the comic book reading world stunned and
surprised.
While changes were made it wasn't a total housing cleaning, but
more of a cosmic rearranging of the furniture. The Monitor, The Anti
Monitor, the new Dr. Light, Alexander Luthor, Harbinger and others
burst on the scene. But the stakes were so high that Barry Allen, Kara
Zor-El, Wonder Woman, and many others did not make it out alive. Magic
met super science, and super-heroics aligned with vile villainy all in
an attempt to save creation across the multiverse. When the dust had
settled, new heroes rose up to take on the mantles of beloved icons
who had perished. A troubled teen became a man to carry on his uncle's
legacy, and thus Wally West became The Flash. A new Earth had emerged
from the cosmological chaos, but still a world in need of heroes. What
followed shortly in DC's publishing line were a spate of new series
that delineated the landscape of this "brave new world".
But was everything now set in stone, were the pieces in all the
right places? Those questions and more were tackled by your hosts, as
they (like the survivors of this "crisis") struggled a bit with the
new status quo. But when talented creatives like George Perez and Marv
Wolman are involved in epic storytelling, does it really matter if all
the toys don't make it back into one box?
If you have never read C.O.I.E., we sincerely hope our audacious
analysis will spur you on to pick it up, and join us in the pleasure
of reading the greatest comic book event of all time!
