Most of us carry our father’s words far longer than we realize, and for many people those messages shape how, when, and why we choose to retire. In this video, I share the story of my father’s final days, the lessons he passed on, and how those lessons pushed me to retire earlier than planned and build a very different life in this next chapter.

My dad struggled with alcoholism, but he also gave me three core principles that shaped everything: work hard, play hard, and help people who are less fortunate. Those words guided my entire career, and they guided me again when it became clear that staying in a job I no longer loved was not how I wanted to spend the rest of my life.

You will hear how I made the decision to leave work behind, how I brought those three principles into my retirement years, and why purpose, love, and connection matter more now than ever. I also talk about what my father never received from his own parents, how that shaped him, and how it shaped the way I try to show up for my kids and for the people I love.
