Ada, a seamstress who joined the expedition so that she would have money to pay for her son’s tuberculosis treatment, was untrained in survival skills, yet taught herself how to live and dare we say thrive on her own in arctic condition after the rest of her party died. She became a real Robinson Crusoe figure. We pointlessly speculate on why she didn’t just ask Santa for a rescue.
