The first word is shindig….shindig…

이건 무슨 말일까요? 사실 제가 큰 모임이나 파티에 초대를 받을때 자주 쓰는 말인데요.it is a social gathering with dancing, or a large and lavish party.

규모가 꽤 크고 사람들이 재밌게 놀고 춤도 추고 하는 그런 떠들썩한 파티를 shindig 이라고 합니다.

My daughter just graduated from high school so I invited some of her friends to my place and we had a little shindig.

제 딸이 고등학교를 졸업을 기념으로 아이의 친구들를 초대해서 파티를 열었답니다.

The second word is foible….foible…

이건 또 무슨 뜻일까요? 이런 단어 들어본적 있으세요? ㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎ 이건 참 쉬운 단어는 아니지만 알아두면 참 멋있는 말입니다.
It means a minor flaw or shortcoming in character or behavior..
별로 해롭지 않은 기벽..흠..이란 뜻입니다.

We could tolerate my uncle's foibles because we loved him dearly.
삼촌을 아주 사랑했기 때문에 우리는 그의 약간의 기벽은 참을 수 있었어요.

The third word is mendacious...mendacious..
이건 무슨 뜻인고 하니...진실을 말하지 않는...허위인...이런 뜻입니다.

Mendacious and lying have very similar meanings, but the two are not interchangeable.

Lying 이라는 말과 비슷하지만 이 두 단어는 서로 바꿔쓸수가 없습니다.

예를 들면..You might yell, "You lying rat!" in an argument, 말싸움을 할때 you lying rat! 이 거짓말쟁이! 이렇게 말할수 있지만 비지니스 미팅에서는
"Aren't you being somewhat mendacious?" 솔직하지 못한것 아닌가요? 이렇게 좀더 diplomatic 하게 말해야겠죠.
