Welcome to episode 8 of our podcast where we explore the world of cannabis research. James and Charlie ask expert in the space Gianni what research and development means in the cannabis industry, how companies and producers cover R&D, and the different parties involved in research partnerships. They delve into the kind of research activities being performed, such as developing new strains of cannabis with specific therapeutic properties, improving extraction and purification processes, and investigating the efficacy and safety of medicinal cannabis in treating various medical conditions. They also discuss the end products that research is currently trying to develop, including clinical trials, innovative delivery systems, and improving our base knowledge of the plant. Join them as they explore what's going on behind the scenes in cannabis research.

In this episode, we welcome back our resident expert guest, plant enthusiast, final year Ph.D. candidate in the genetics of medicinal cannabis at La Trobe University, friend and favourite cannabis scientist, Gianni Del Rosario-Makridis. Gianni's work is dedicated to discovering new and exciting therapies for treatments by unlocking the therapeutic benefits of plants. He graduated with first class honours in botany in 2017 and has been researching cannabis trichome genetics full-time as a Ph.D. candidate since then. In addition to being an academic teaching plant-based molecular biology to undergraduates, Gianni is also a scientific consultant in the cannabis industry with experience as a cultivator for one of Australia's largest cannabis companies. He brings a wealth of expertise in both the science and commercial sides of medical cannabis to our show.
