Matthew Smith is Professor of Health History at the University of Strathclyde’s Centre for the Social History of Health and Healthcare.  He is the author of The First Resort: The History of Social Psychiatry in the United States (Columbia UP, 2023) and has written or co-edited many other books on the history of mental health and psychiatry, food and nutrition and allergy and immunology.  Among these are the award-winning Hyperactive: The Controversial History of ADHD (Reaktion, 2012) and Another Person’s Poison: A History of Food Allergy (Columbia UP, 2015).
