Dr. Sharon Vaughn talks to us about how emotional and behavioral aspects of students’ lives can impact academics, students’ background knowledge as a kind of jet fuel for progress in reading, and teaching with evidence-based practices informed by our clinical experiences. Sharon is known for her work in the areas of effective interventions for a diverse group of students with reading difficulties and for students who are English language learners. Dr. Vaughn is the Manuel J. Justiz Endowed Chair in Education, the Executive Director of The Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk, and a Professor in the Department of Special Education at The University of Texas, Austin.
