Author Jeff Barker tells the story of Arlene Schuitman who gave up a comfortable life as a school teacher in rural Iowa in order to face dangers as a missionary nurse in south Sudan during independance. Barker tells of struggles with logistics, health, supplies, personnel, loneliness, depression, threats and the daily challenges of life far from the comforts of home. More than an interesting story, today's show will inspire as it reminds us that sharing the Gospel has always been a charastic (distinguishing trait) of Christian faith and sacrifice. Because of Schuitman's faith and modern medicine, her clinic became known as a place o magic.
