ACT Doctors Face Higher Workplace Abuse, Long Hours
Update: 2025-12-14
Description
New survey reveals higher rates of workplace abuse and longer hours for trainee doctors in the Australian Capital Territory. ACT doctors are seven percentage points more likely to experience or witness bullying, harassment, discrimination, or racism, with colleagues being the primary source. Half of those who didnt report incidents feared repercussions or believed nothing would be done. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander trainees face an even tougher situation, with nearly twice the likelihood of abuse and higher consideration of leaving the profession. ACT doctors also work significantly longer hours, averaging forty-seven point three hours a week, with seventy percent working forty hours or more. These findings highlight persistent challenges with workplace culture and demanding work schedules in the ACT.
