A worker at the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility in southeast Colorado remained hospitalized last night after sustaining injuries in an incident where another woman was killed. A press release from the Colorado Department of Corrections says the fatal incident occurred Monday during early morning breakfast preparations at the state facility in Crowley. Sergeant Lori Gann sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized in Pueblo. The identity of the slain worker has not yet been released. The facility houses about 1,000 male prisoners. The incident remains under investigation, though officials said Monday at least one suspect has been identified.

An El Nino weather pattern appears to be shaping up across the western United States and that could bring a winter that’s better for skiing than last year, but still much drier than normal.
