Description
ASIO investigated Naveed Akram, one of the Bondi Beach gunmen, after an Islamic State arrest in 2019. Akram, 24, and his father, 50, opened fire at a Chanukah celebration, killing 15 and injuring 42. Naveed was apprehended and is in critical condition, while his father was killed. An Islamic State flag was found in their car. ASIO had been monitoring Naveed since 2019 due to his connections with an Islamic State operative, Isaak El Matari, who is now serving a 7-year sentence for terrorism offenses.
