2. Russia – Republic of Congo
Vladimir Putin calls Congo a "friend and reliable partner" of Russia
On the sidelines of World War II’s 80th anniversary celebrations in Beijing, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Denis Sassou-Nguesso, President of the Republic of Congo.

Russian president Vladimir Putin arrived in Cape Town, leading a delegation of government officials and business people on a two day official visit.
This was the first ever visit of a Russian head of state to SA. He was welcomed by President Thabo Mbeki in a special ceremony.
