1.    Senegal- France 

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko cancels first official visit to France

Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has cancelled his planned attendance at an investor forum organised by the BPI France bank in Paris on 23 September.

Sonko was expected to be a guest of honour at the event, as part of his first official visit to France.

 

2.    Tanzania – Dar es Salaam

The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on Tanzanian authorities to lift a 90-day suspension of the popular discussion and news platform JamiiForums and to ensure that media can operate freely in the countdown to October’s elections.

“JamiiForums’ suspension is the latest sign of the Tanzanian government’s deepening suppression of public discourse and raises concerns about access to information ahead of the October 29 elections,” said CPJ Regional Director Angela Quintal.

Malawi holds a presidential election on September 16, when voters will also cast ballots for members of parliament and local councillors.

It was on this day 11 September 1987 when the reggae musician Peter Stepping Razor Tosh was assassinated by three gunmen on motorcycles at his Plymouth Avenue residence in Barbican, Kingston, Jamaica.
