The Wyoming weather has delayed installation of an air monitoring station in Rawlins.
At the August 5th Rawlins City Council meeting, City Attorney Pinita Maberry‑Nave announced that Air Resource Specialists of Fort Collins, Colorado, was seeking authorization to install a temporary air‑quality monitoring station in the city. Attorney Maberry-Nave said the contractor proposed placing the facility in an unused section of property behind the Rawlins Family Recreation Center.
The city attorney said the station resembles a standard pull-behind trailer equipped with weather monitoring instruments and a large roof-mounted antenna. Air quality data is sent directly to the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality.
In exchange for hosting the station, Air Resource Specialists will pay the City of Rawlins $150 a month and cover the cost of electricity.
The governing body approved the proposal and, on August 19th, signed a contract with Air Resource Specialists to install the temporary air‑monitoring station at the Rawlins Family Recreation Center. The agreement runs for 18 months but may be terminated or extended at the city’s discretion.
Speaking at the November 4th Rawlins City Council meeting, City Attorney Maberry‑Nave explained that strong winds had delayed installation of the mobile air‑monitoring system. Once the facility is in place, the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality will hold a public information meeting to explain the station’s purpose.
As of Thursday afternoon, last week, the mobile air‑monitoring station had not yet been installed.
