This week, over 1,200 delegates from across Alberta have gathered here at Calgary’s TELUS Convention Centre for what Alberta Municipalities is calling the province’s largest municipal gathering — the 2025 Alberta Municipalities Convention and Trade Show.

Running through Friday, the event brings together councillors, mayors, and municipal officials from every corner of Alberta — all here to take courses, share ideas, and strengthen connections that help shape the future of our communities.

Many of the attendees are still finding their footing after being elected on October 20th, while others are returning to continue the work they’ve started in their communities.

Together, they represent a mix of fresh perspectives and seasoned experience — all focused on one goal: building stronger municipalities.

On the first day of the convention, we caught up with mayors — both new and returning — to talk about the early days in their roles and what lies ahead for their municipalities.

We spoke with Spruce Grove Mayor Jeff Acker, Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton, Canmore Mayor Sean Krausert, Cochrane Mayor Nigel Nagel, and Cold Lake Mayor Bob Mattice.
