Alcohol-Free Drinks: Not Always Healthier
Update: 2025-12-11
Description
Alcohol-free alternatives may not be as healthy as they seem. Bini Suresh, a spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association, explains that while these drinks remove risks like cancer and liver disease, they arent automatically healthy due to other ingredients. Many alcohol-free wines and beers contain added sugars like grape concentrate and lactose or fructose, boosting their carbohydrate and calorie counts. Even some non-alcoholic aperitifs can be sugar bombs, with a single serving contributing ten to twelve grams of added sugar. So, while going alcohol-free is a positive step, its worth checking the labels on your alternative beverages and enjoying them in moderation.
