Alexey Molchanov (English version) The GOAT in depth freediving
Description
Alexey Molchanov, the deepest man in the world (across all competition disciplines), started freediving at 17, with his mum, the famous Natalia Molchanova who brought a lot to the freediving world 💙
He was struggling to reach 30m due to sinus squeeze. Back in 2004, there were no tutorials on mouthfill. Just a few legends diving deep in the ocean and a teenager watching from the shore, still too young to compete.
A year later, he’s 18, at his first World Championship in Nice, hitting 85m thanks to a Japanese diver who explained mouthfill minutes before the dive. From that moment, equalization was never a problem again.
🫁 His biggest lesson? Don’t start with equalization techniques. Start by building awareness, strength and softness in your breathing muscles. Mouthfill is useless if your intercostals and diaphragm are stiff.
💡 Breathwork, mobility, and precision matter more than magic tricks : “50m is for anyone. 100m needs fitness. 130m needs excellence.”
🎯After 20 years at the top, he still loves the process. Still trains like a beginner. Still believes we can go deeper. World Records attempts are just curiosity and challenge…
📉 Stress? On a scale from 1 to 10, he’s at 2 before a deep dive. Because stress is just doubt. If you know you can do it — there’s nothing to fear.
Thank you Alexey for accepting our invitation on the podcast so quickly 🙏
