Description

Massachusetts Question 5, Minimum Wage for Tipped Employees Initiative (2024)

The proposed law aims to gradually increase the minimum hourly wage for tipped workers over a five-year period. It specifies the percentage of the state minimum wage that must be paid to tipped workers each year, with the goal of reaching 100% of the state minimum wage by January 1, 2029. The law also requires employers to make up the difference between the tipped worker's hourly wage and the state minimum wage through the end of 2028. Additionally, it allows for the administration of a "tip pool" by employers who pay their workers at least the state minimum wage, which would distribute tips among both tipped and non-tipped workers.
